Help w/Adjusting SDR Max Fan Speeds for P4000 S1200RPL V3

$

Hello All,

I just put together a new server from an Intel P4000RP barebones chassis which comes with the S1200RPL board. On first power up it sounded like a jet engine and remained like that until I updated the bios, redetected the chassis, and did all the usual steps recommended. Now the fan speeds are totally fine when idle or under light load, but they increase to an irritatingly loud volume when running at high load.

Acoustic mode is already turned on in the BIOS, but I would like to go further as I am pretty confident I could half the max fan speed values and still be no where near overheating. The server has no hard drives, just SSDs, so there isn't much to keep cool in there other than the CPU. Unfortunately it will live in a room with 4 working people, so keeping the sound to a reasonable level is a priority even under max load. Obviously I will do some tests to make sure there is no danger of overheating.

Anyway, the issue is that I'm not sure which entry to modify. Unfortunately this being a newer board, the entries don't correspond to some of the past forum posts / tutorials I've read online. An example section from my S1200RP.sdr follows below. I'd ultimately like to adjust sys fan 1 and sys fan 4 while leaving the CPU fan settings alone. I see that "Temperature Threshold Boost Value" and "Ramp Step" are both 64, hexadecimal for 100. Is one or both of those what I need to decrease, or am I in the wrong place?

Really appreciate anyone's time and effort on this. Thanks!

S5000PAL Does not boot to Bios

Hi server guru's,

I have a SR2500ALLX chassis with a S5000pal board that will not boot to bios.

This is a retired server I was resurrecting for additional storage and running a virus solution.

I had just put in 5 new drives, installed new memory and successfully updated the bios to the latest release.

For a few weeks I was playing with different OS's (2012 essentials, W10 preliminary release etc) Setting up various raid configs, etc. I Had no issues at all.

In fact I was quite pleased to find the drivers not to be an issue.

It was running great.

I went to install W7 64bit everything was fine until the Os went into it's first re-boot after install, then it hung.

I am stuck (hung) at this screen:

---------------

Raid Controller Bios version MT30 (build Jan 05 20007)

HA-0 (Bus 4 Dev 14)

Intel raid controller SROMBSAS18E

FW package 5.1.1 -0038

1 logical drive found on the host adapter

1 logical drives handled by bios

---------------

my diagnostic lights are: green-red-green-red

I tried a cmos reset. no help.

I tried disconnecting various components with no luck.

I'm afraid the mother board is toast. But I'm up for any suggestions.

Thanks

Intel SAS Backplanes

Guten Tag,

Intel ASC memory consumption

Hello,

after installation of Intel Active System Console on serverboard S2600CP and Windows Server 2012 R2 (only Hyper-V role installed), these processes start to consume lots of memory:

     platform_handler.exe

     policyservice.exe

around 2GB each, platform_handler in 2 or 3 instances, so around 6GB of memory together. After restart, everything is ok, but these processes are slowly growing up to 2GB.

I have tried ASC 6.1.14 and 7.0.20, both with the same result. After uninstall of ASC everything is ok.

Is there any solution? I would like to use ASC, but 6GB of memory in unacceptable.

Thanks.

Hi,

I have a problem on RHEL 5.5 i686 OS. snmpsa-6.0-1010 ia32 does not work correctly but x86-64 works correctly. I tried 6.0 build14 [1] and 7.0 build14 but observed the same behavior.  The snmpsa(smSubagent) process is died after 30-40 secs due to huge cpu usage.

Output of ps -ef | grep smSubagent

ss r2000gz-gl programmatically reading the BMC chip

$

Hi,

I'm a developer, and I've been requested to implement a way to read the status of the redundant power supply of an Intel server in our .Net 4.0 application. Specifically a server in the r2000gz-gl series.

I've tried retrieving this information using WMI, to no avail.  There are WMI classes like Win32_ComputerSystem and Win32_PowerSupply which could contain such information. But when I request these on the servers they're empty.

I also found HP servers have specific WMI classes as discussed in topics like this one: WMI power supply

This makes me wonder if Intel servers also have specific WMI classes, but I couldn't find anything like it in the available WMI classes on the server.

I've installed various drivers and tools that are available from the Intel website, and among them was a tool that dumps the status of the BMC chip. I've seen that this dump contains the information I need, plus a whole lot of other information that might be usefull in the future (and a whole lot more of info that is completely not relevant to me).

I could write my code to start this tool, wait for it to finish, then parse the dump file and retrieve this info. But considering this tool can reach the info, I was hoping I could reach the info from my application as well. Which hopefully is a lot quicker, a lot cleaner. And preferably, if runs with WMI, makes the info retrievable from other (similar) servers in the network as well.

So my question is:

- Can it be done with WMI (or similar)?

- If not, can it at least be done more directly (instead of a tool > dump > parse > info route) from C# .Net4

Looking forward to your help.

Kind regards,

Koen Visser

H2216XXKR 4 node Server with S2600JF Disk Activity LED flashing Green and Status LED Amber

Hi,

We have  a 4 node Server (Chassis H2216XXKR) with 4 Compute Modules / Mainboard S2600JF. ESXi installed on the Servers. Every Server has 4 Drives (SSDs) as Raid 0. The OS (ESXi) is installed on a Satadom (innodisk).

The Servers was running since over a year without any problem.

Today one of the Servers lost one Datastore (SSD Disk (Intel 480) RAID 0) and was'nt accessible by the ESXi till i reboot the server.

After the restart the Server running normaly (all Disk accessible) - except the LED on the Drive Carrier flashing unusual.

Activity LED flashing but also the Status LED flashing amber very often. (2.5" HDD Carrier)

Why this happens ? As described above we use RAID 0 on all Drives - so no rebuild process is ongoing.

Any ideas ?

Display issues with Intel S1200v3RPS board running Ubuntu 14.04

This was going to be just a standard install or so I thought...

All went well until I start the Unity desktop and it is awfully slow.

Monitor settings in Unity display settings show max option of 1280 x 1024 when the monitor is capable of much higher resolution.

Installed the Intel Graphics drivers for Linux from 01.org.

Tried multiple monitors just to be sure that the problem was not with the monitors.

Really need to resolve this issue.

Do I need to install any monitor drivers for Samsung? The same monitors (I tried two different ones) work fine on the same version of Ubuntu on a low-end Intel motherboard.

I think the problem is specific to S1200v3RPS, the onboard graphics controller, or some such issue. Big question is: What am I missing?

Installing 2008 r2 on s5500hcv

Hi all,

I am having an issue installing 2008/r2 on a s5500hcv server using a gpt drive.

I have updated the mainboard firmware to 64, and the raid card as well (rs2bl040).

I have seperated the VD's two one 6tb, and one 2tb. The 2tb is for the backup staging, so i cannot use that

I have a uefi boot USB, which allows the install to load, i can select the OS, and choose the disk, it creates the partitions and then click on next, and it sits at Copying Windows files (0%) for as long as you want to leave it, It wont progress past 0%.

I have tried all different bios settings, and other suggestions that i have seen whilst researching the issue, all of which come to a grinding halt.

Can anyone suggest a way to get it to work

thanks

Dan

Why is Intel Deployment Assistant showing older versions?

I just built a new server using an S1200V3RPL board. It has the following versions:
BMC: 1.10.5637
BIOS: 01.04.0002
ME:   03.00.05.068

SDR: 1.06

I booted the Intel Deployment Assistant CD, version 5.2 that shipped with the board. It displays the correct current versions that I have in the BIOS setup.
I select Get System Updates, from www.intel.com (recommended), DHCP and direct connection to Internet (I'm using a wired ethernet connection).
It then shows Update Package: 1.0 30-August 2013, and clicking Show Contents displays:
IBMC Ver: 1.08.5091

SDR Ver: 1.05

BIOS Ver: 01.03.0004

ME Ver: 03.00.04.209

All four appear to be older versions than what I already have installed. Why is the IDA offering me these older versions? There appear to be much newer versions if I check on the web. Should I just forget about using the IDA and update manually instead?
Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
