Adding drives to a raid 5 to increase storage space

$

Hello all,

I have a raid 5 array I build for a HTPC/server with aIntel® RAID Controller SRCSASBB8I. Running windows7 64bit.

Never had one issue glad to say except now I am runing out of storage space. I have 6,1TB Drives that yields around 4.8 TB of usable storage.

I thought I could simply connect another drive to the card, scan for it with the web console utility and add it. But the drive doesn't populate, show up in the console.

My questions,

1. It is a new drive I am adding. I didn't format it first. Maybe this needs to be done? It's the same exact drive model as all the others.

2. Is there any risk of corrupting the existing data on the current array when adding additional drives to increase the storage size?

3. In order to be able to do this was I suppose to configure the array a special way when I first initialized the virtual disk?

If it's best to back up all my data deleted the array and start all over because I didn't configure something to be able to add drives like this then so be it. I will do. I just would love to learn what it is that's needed so I don't find myself doing this again.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!!!

JBOD2312S2SP Power Supply Issue?

I have a JBOD2312S2SP Intel Raid Enclosure (Intel® Storage Systems JBOD Family) at my house and woke up to screaming fan noises.  Warning light was blinking and the console showed this:

Note I only have one power supply so if the cable was removed not sure how it was still running.  Right after that warning received the below messages copied from the logs so the top one is the latest:

Last message until 6 minutes later I powered up a computer to remove in and shutdown the system.  Pulled the power plug, put it back in, powered everything up, and it's running right now without issue.  Thoughts?

Edit:  As a side note, the Intel Raid Web Console shows this drive cage with 2 power supplies.  Always did.  I only have one.  So not sure if that's just how many it can hold or if it's just not intelligent enough to detect the number of drives.

Thanks.

No Intel server MB supported in ESXi 6.0

We have 3 x 2 year old 2600gz platforms that run ESXi 5.5.

After the 6.0 we verified if the platform is support just because this is our procedure. We weren't really expecting to find that no intel platform appears in the ESXi 6.0 compatibility matrix.

I hope this is just a delay and not the real deal.

DirectPDMapping

I looked at the CMDTool2 manual for the RMT3CB080 Raid controller and found the syntax to change the DirectPDMapping setting, default is off. Every time I issue the command to turn it on I get an exit code 0x1. On LSI controllers I have successfully done this in EFI. I tried MegaCLI, StorCLI and CmdTool2 in EFI and DOS, no luck. In the StorCLi utility it replies that the directpdmapping failed for set cmd Error code 3. Has anyone else seen this behavior?

ss r2000gz-gl programmatically reading the BMC chip

$

Hi,

I'm a developer, and I've been requested to implement a way to read the status of the redundant power supply of an Intel server in our .Net 4.0 application. Specifically a server in the r2000gz-gl series.

I've tried retrieving this information using WMI, to no avail.  There are WMI classes like Win32_ComputerSystem and Win32_PowerSupply which could contain such information. But when I request these on the servers they're empty.

I also found HP servers have specific WMI classes as discussed in topics like this one: WMI power supply

This makes me wonder if Intel servers also have specific WMI classes, but I couldn't find anything like it in the available WMI classes on the server.

I've installed various drivers and tools that are available from the Intel website, and among them was a tool that dumps the status of the BMC chip. I've seen that this dump contains the information I need, plus a whole lot of other information that might be usefull in the future (and a whole lot more of info that is completely not relevant to me).

I could write my code to start this tool, wait for it to finish, then parse the dump file and retrieve this info. But considering this tool can reach the info, I was hoping I could reach the info from my application as well. Which hopefully is a lot quicker, a lot cleaner. And preferably, if runs with WMI, makes the info retrievable from other (similar) servers in the network as well.

So my question is:

- Can it be done with WMI (or similar)?

- If not, can it at least be done more directly (instead of a tool > dump > parse > info route) from C# .Net4

Looking forward to your help.

Kind regards,

Koen Visser

R1304WT2GS raid drivers for Microsoft Server 2012 r2 standard, Intel drivers don't work whats the solution?

Microsoft Server 2012 R2 Standard will not take the latest or any ESRT 2 Raid drivers when the asked at beginning of installation. I can browser to drivers and list shows compatible drivers but Windows reports they are not correct drivers. I'm stuck, cannot continue install. I called Intel support and got the usually run around i.e. case number 8001096054 and we will look into. This is a new Intel server line as of 4/1/2015, they are just released and drivers seem half baked. I also tried the RSTe raid with same result. Anybody help me or at least seen the same problem?

RS3DC0080 combined with RES3TV360 on R2224WTTYS

I have the intel server system R2224WTTYS with RS3DC0080 Raid card and the RES3TV360 SAS expander.  When everything is connected up I only see it linked to the expander on ports 0 - 3 rather than 0 - 7 as expected.  I have looked everything over and connected it according to the "r2000wt_systemintegration_and_serviceguide_rev1_1" documentation.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have been trying to figure out the problem on my own for days.

Thanks in advance,

s5000psl will not boot, status led solid green/amber

I just bought a used intel s5000psl from ebay, it was just the bare board with 2 xeon 5140 and 4gb of ram. Ive got a 680w atx power supply plugged upto the board, it didnt come with a case/rack so i just made a makeshift case out of the cardboard box for testing, i found the technical product spec and found that the power button pins are 11 and 13 on the panel connector so i hooked up a button to those but when i click it when the status led is solid green nothing happens, the cpu and system fans never start up and neither does the fan on the psu.

When i plug in the psu the blue led comes on then the status led is solid green with amber blinking then its just solid green for a bout a minute, then both the green and amber are solid.

any info on why im not getting anything from this board would be greatly appreciated.

remote (ipmi console) BIOS configuration of RS25CB080

$

I have a server in a remote location that boots from a RAID array on a RS25CB080.  I need to reconfigure this array but I only have remote IPMI console access so I cannot use the RAID BIOS Console 2 Utility.

Given that it's the machine's boot disk which is the array I want to reconfigure (yes, I will lose data on the array, I understand) I am figuring I cannot use the Intel RAID Web Console 2 either.

Is there any way to do this using a standard CLI based BIOS console that will operate over the IPMI console redirection feature of the server?

cold reset of IPMI required after S2600WT maintenance?

Hi

After a maintenance of a couple of servers (S2600WT board), only about half of them managed to get an IP address via DHCP on IPMI afterwards.

The BIOS settings were correctly set to dynamic.

We tried static assignment and it worked. But for dynamic (DHCP), we needed to execute a cold reset on the IPMI to bring them back.

Any ideas why this happened and can be avoided for future maintenance cycles?

Thank you for a response, I am thankful for any ideas.

Best,

Maik

Intel 82574L NIC drivers for Windows 2012 R2

$

have a Supermicro SuperServer 5016I-MTHF with 2x Intel 82574L NICs. After installing Windows Server 2012 r2, the NIC is connected and working, but after a few minutes, both NICs show up as "disabled" and I cannot enable them without restarting the server. I have attempted to install drivers, but the latest PROset drivers from Intel's website say they cannot find a network adapter, and trying to manually install the drivers from Supermicro (PRO1000/Winx64/NDIS63/e1q63x64.inf) say that they are not compatible with windows.

Any help would be great, I'm at a complete loss as to how to solve this.

S2600-CP2 vmware ESXi 5.5 hangs on ACPI initialization -- Boot loop

Hi all,

I recently upgraded the firmware of a working S2600CP2 server running VMWare ESXi 5.5 build 1474528 and VMWare now gets stuck on the initialization of ACPI.  After about a minute or two of being stuck on the initialization of ACPI, the server reboots as if the reset button was pushed on the front of the server, basically resulting in a boot-loop.

S5000PSL fan speed

Recently just got this server up and running and i bought 2 stock intel LGA 771 heat sinks w/fan for it and for some reason they always run at 100%, it literally sounds like im running a shop-vac in my room.

The board doesn't seem to offer any way to set fan speed through the bios like desktop motherboards so i was wondering how i would be able to have them controlled based off cpu temp, or at least manually control them?

I have tried modifying the SL_48.SDR file so that normal fan speed for all chassis is at 50% and this didn't seem to do anything. Oh also im not using a chassis , its just the bare board for now.

any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Interpretation of POST LED displays missing in documentation.

After some initial hiccups, I was able to get the Intel motherboard to at least power up. Now it does not start the boot process. I tried to understand the LED displays which explain problems encountered during Power-On-Self-Test(POST). I get the following code: 00101011. That is Amber LED No. 5 is on and so are Green LEDs no. 0, 1 and 3. However, the mother board product technical specification document, does not list an explanation for this code. Need to know what is wrong with the motherboard or which component is faulty. To make sure that I was not getting the bits wrong, I tried to boot without the RAM and the diagnostic LED did show the applicable POST code.
