Intel Modular Server, adding new virtual drive and increasing drive size

$

My apologies if I'm posting in the wrong forum, I wasn't sure if there was a better place for this.

I am the IT guy for a small rural hospital.  Our Electronic Medical Record System (EMR) is housed on three servers in an Intel Modular Server Chassis.  This system was set up before I got here, and I have had no prior experience with the Modular Server (MFSYS25).  There are two issues I'm having trouble with, and was hoping I could get some help from the experts.

1.  The C: drive on a couple of servers is starting get a little cramped.  I tried expanding the size of the drive from the console, but this change does not appear in the OS (MS Server 2008).  The drive size is the same as it was.

2.  I took some of the unallocated storage from one of the two storage pools to create a new virtual drive and assigned it to one of the servers.  However, the new drive does not show up in the OS.

I'm sure the the issues are related, but I'm not sure what I'm missing.  I rebooted the server.  I also shut down the server, unassigned and then reassigned the drive and brought the server back up.  In both cases, I still didn't get the desired results.  Could somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

E3-1275v3 P4600 Graphics

I have this cpu installed with Server 2012 R2. I wanted to install the drivers for the p4600 graphics to just do a really basic RemoteFX run. I know it is far from optimal but still wanted to just try it out. I found a driver for the p4600 graphics here Download Intel HD Graphics P4600/P4700 Driver 9.18.10.3222 64-bit for Windows XP 64 bit, Windows Vista 64 bit, Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 8 64 bit.

However when I went to go add the driver through device manager it only results in a Yellow bang and the device is not usable. The driver installs no problem just the graphics adapter is not fully functioning. Is there a way I can install this driver and get use out of the p4600 graphics on server 2012 r2 or am I SOL?

I appreciate any help thank you.

I'm interested with the Intel server system with Intel S5500ur motherboard & Intel Xeon Quad core X5550 2.66Ghz CPU, advertised in the link Intel rack mount server, Quad at 2.66Ghz, 12GB | Trade Me

1) is it a good high end server system? motherboard supports both VT-X and VTD?
2) it only has one CPU, can both ethernet ports be used simultaneously?
3) support vmware esxi 4/5?

Need Help Installing Intel Serverboard AXX6DR3GEXP

Hello,

I have an Intel pedestal server chassis with the standard 6 bay hard drive cage.  I recently acquired an AXX6DR3GEXP hot-swap 6 drive cage with an Adaptec ASR-3405/128MB Raid card.

I would like to replace the standard cage with the hot-swap cage and need help with the installation. I plan to install FreeBSD on this server and do not need a dedicated RAID controller but would like the ability to install both SAS and SATA drives. The hot-swap cage was removed from a dead server with the same hardware configuration (motherboard, PSU, case, etc.).

Besides install/connection help, I would also like to verify if this drive setup is possible? Also, do I need the RAID card to make this work?

Here is my system:

motherboard> S5000XVN/XSL

Backplane/Cage> AXX6DRV3GEXP

Raid Card> Adaptec ASR-3405/128MB

Lynx Point and Samsung SSDs

I am in troubles with a Supermicro X10SAT motherboard and Samsung SSDs.

Samsung 830 PRO 256GB is not correctly recognized on ports 0, 1 but ok on ports 2, 3. On ports 0,1 the drive is recognized randomly at boot and, if recognized, shows SMART errors and get lost after a while.

Samsung 840 PRO 256GB is not correctly recognized on ports 0, 1 but ok on ports 2, 3. On ports 0,1 the drive is recognized randomly at boot and, if recognized, shows SMART errors and get lost after a while.

Samsung 840 PRO 512GB is correctly recognized on every port!

Every HDD drive, such as Velociraptor, is correctly recognized on every port too.

The only difference I can find on bios from ports 0,1 and 2, 3 is the voice "Port x SATA Device Type" with the options SSD or HDD.

I have tried to contact Supermicro support but it is like to hit a wall with bare hands. They tell it is a Lynx Point incompatibility, they certify only DC3500 and DC3700 SSD, they can do nothing to correct the problem and so on. I think it is the last time I buy that brand.

However, at this point, I can do nothing but ask if some tech guy or a tech from Intel is able to make some tests with similar boards and Samsung SSDs and help me, as with the money I made my boss spend on this server system I am almost f**kd up and will probably lose job.

Please, I need help

Hi,

I managed to set up the P4304CR2LFKN by installing 2 XEON processors, populate all RAM slots for total of 256GB RAM and nvidia graphic card (installed in slot 1 PCI Gen3).  But when I boot up, with processor fans and system fans blowing well, no beeping sound but there is no display from the internal video or from the graphic card output.  Tried clearing BIOS but still no display.  Please help.  Let me know if I missed a step etc or what can be the likely problem.

Thanks in advance.

Noise Level Query of Servers R1304RP and R1208RP

$

Hi,

Can anyone comment on the noise levels of the Xeon E3 v3 based R1304RP and R1208RP Server Systems?

I share my home office with a computer cabinet so I have to be concerned about the noise levels of any equipment I mount within it. I have 4 of the old Xeon E3 (v1) based R1304BTL servers and they are very quiet.  They have their moments when those little fans spin up but the vast majority of the time noise isn't a problem.  I was wondering how the R1304RP and R1208RP compare to the older R1304BTL servers.

I was leaning towards the single power supply R1304RP as it will likely be the quieter of the two but the R1208RP would be preferable otherwise.

     Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Howard

S1200V3RPL, GbE I350-T2 and SR-IOV

Hi,

I was looking into the S1200V3RPL motherboard and I350-T2 dual port Gigabit Ethernet card for my new ESXi server (Xeon E3 1230v3 processor). I was intrigued by the SR-IOV technique, supported by the I350-T2 network card. However, I could not find definitive answers to a couple of questions.

- Does the S1200V3RPL board support SR-IOV?

If it does, it seems that this setup fullfills all the criteria set in:

http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-55/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.vsphere.networking.doc%2FGUID-EE03DC6F-32CA-42EF-98FC-12FDE06C0BE0.html

But then the I350-T2 is not listed as supported device using SR-IOV in ESXi 5.5. Does anyone know wether I'd be able to create VF's in ESXi? (Is the device unsupported but working? Or will it just not work alltogether?). I know the device itself is supported in ESXi 5.5, but I specificly need the SR-IOV to work.

Thanks in advance,

Lew

Hey there,

how do I enable the Remote Console on a Intel RMM4?

I am using a S2600CP as board an a Intel RMM4.

But as soon as I want to view the remote console it says: This feature has been disabled by an administrator.

But I can't find the checkbox to activate it whether in the webinterface nor in BIOS.

Any tips for me?

RAID Card crashes after Firmware update

$

Hi guys. Few months back I updated the firmware on my RAID card with the latest firmware from Intel website. I also downloaded the latest driver for Windows 8 and subsequently 8.1. And ever since these 2 updates, when I play a movie, it freezes and when I reboot, I get an error message from the RAID Web Utility about firmware failure on the RAID card. Also, when I transfer data from the drive to a USB device, everything freezes and I'm forced to reboot. I've gone as far as transferring data to internal drives and for the most part, that works... but it also freezes randomly.

I'm sitting with just over 12TB of data that I'm now battling to move to other drives.

The card model is the SRCSATAWB. Please someone help.

Intel 82576 NICs not showing anymore

$

Hi,

Last night I have been messing around with a Dell C6100 units with four nodes with each two 82576 adapters. At some point I installed PROset one of the nodes in order to try out teaming. Later I decided teaming was not needed any stupidly decided to remove the teaming software - without removing the 2 adapters from the team - result is that I now have one node which is under the impression that it has no network cards.

Re-installing PROset fails because no adapters could be found, I took a drive out of another node (with and without proset installed) to see if this would uncover anything - but no luck. It seems something has been written to the cards so that they will not announce themselves anymore.

I just figured out that a BIOS re-flash might solve things, but on the other hand I guess that might not flip the bit I need on the NIC's - will try that tommorow!

Anybody have a clue what I could do to get the adapters alive again?

RAID: Potential non-optimal configuration due, PD commissioned as Emergency Spare

$

I recently bought some 4TB disks (WD4003FZEX) to make a new RAID to replace an old one that failed.  Because my old intel RAID card did not support 4TB disks, I bought a new raid card as well (RS2BL080DE).  I created a raid-10 using 4 disks to use as backup storage and started a big rsync.  During that operation, two of the disks were marked as failed and taken offline - but luckily, the RAID was only degraded and not failed.  The problem may be the disks, but I realized I had woefully out of date firmware and drivers for the raid card, mother board and OS - any of which might also have been the culprit.  So, I upgraded all of the drivers and firmware and my OS (to CentOS 6.5) and installed the latest version of RAID Web Console 2.  After all that, I told the RAID card to rebuild the failed disks (one at a time).  The rebuild went OK and the RAID was brought back to "optimal", however, those two disks are now marked as "emergency spare" and once per day I get an email reminder for each of them resembling the following:

Controller ID: 0 Reminder: Potential non-optimal configuration due, PD commissioned as Emergency Spare -:-:2

Event ID:406

Generated On: Wed Jan 08 10:16:15 EST 2014

System Details---

Server IP: [redacted]

OS name:Linux

OS Version:2.6

Driver Name:megaraid_sas

Driver Version:06.601.06.00

Image Details---

BIOS Version : 3.27.00_4.12.05.00_0x05270000

Firmware Package Version: 12.13.0-0154

Firmware Version : 2.130.383-2315

I'm running on linux (CentOS 6.5) and using RWC2, but I cannot figure out any way to tell the RAID that these disks are not emergency spares.  I'm not even sure what it means to be an emergency spare at the same time that a disk is part of the RAID array.

Can anyone help me resolve this problem?  Thanks.
