S2600CP2 - Can't load ACHI drivers in Server 2012R2 for Samsung 840SSD

$

In a working Windows Server 2012R2 system on an S2600CP2 board, I have four non-RAID drives installed on the AHCI controller, and the SAS/SATA Capable Controller is disabled.   On that controller:

  • 2 Samsung 840 Pro SSDs on the 6GB/s ports 0 and 1.
  • a Samsung 840 Pro SSD on 3GB/s port 2.
  • a 2TB Western Digital WD2000FYYZ installed on 3GB/s port 3.
  • a DVD/CD drive is installed on port 5.

The "ACHI Capable SATA Controller" is set in the BIOS to be in [ACHI] mode.

Windows Server installation detected these drives and under the Driver Properties tab of Device Manager properties for the SSDs it lists:
Driver Provider: Microsoft

Driver Date: 6/21/2006

Driver Version: 6.3.9600.16384

Driver Signer: Microsoft.

I'd initially had VSS errors with Windows Server Backup on these SSDs and the 2TB WD drive  (backing up and external USB drive).  Microsoft support was able to correct this by setting paging files on each SSD and various other tweaks.

A technician on SAMSUNGs support site said there were no special drivers for them - but noted that in the Device Manager they were listed as SCSI drives & that was not good.   I removed and redetected each device - and the 'SCSI' disappeared from the description, but the driver used was as noted above.

On Intel's download site for Windows Server 2012R2 and S2600CP2, I found

RSTe_and_AHCI_Drivers_GUI_CIM_CLI_3.8.0.1111_2013.09.26.zip  v3.8.1111  dated 10/4/2013.

And it was stated: "Note: Package Version = 3.8.0.1111 adds support for Windows Server 2012 R2"

Splendid I thought - I will update the drivers.

I downloaded and unzipped the files, and in the Device Manager I selected a drive, right clicked, and picked "Update Driver Software"

No matter how I tried, the OS would not update the drivers for the 2TB or the SSDs.  When I selected the driver myself from those unzipped to:

G:\DOWNLOADS - INTEL\Intel RSTe_and_AHCI\RSTe_and_AHCI_Drivers_GUI_CIM_CLI_3.8.0.1111_2013.09.26\Drivers\x64_win8_server12\AHCI

this error was presented:

The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device.  If the folder contains a driver, make sure its designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems.

  1. Should I even attempt to update the drivers?
  2. Why can't the drivers in this folder be installed on Windows Server 2012R2 when the documentation says they are supported for that OS?
  3. I don't have a lot of experience at this - what am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

IPMIDriver and snmpsa rpm for rhel6

Hi,

Our product is moving from rhel 5 to rhel 6. The Mother board of the product is INTEL S5000PHB type. We need the snmp subagent rpm for rhel 6. Does it exist? Is there any other place where we can get it? We also need the ipmi driver rpm for rhel 6 x86_64. I actually downloaded the imbsrc tar from intel and tried to compile for rhel 6 i386 32 bit  kernel. It compiled successfully but gives the following error while installing. I am not able to aompile in the 64 bit kernel at all as it says ioctl32.h is not present

This install does not recognize this motherboard.
You can contact your platform vendor to verify IPMI support.
conflict with OpenIPMI driver
/usr/local/ism/driver/imbload: line 47: return: -1: invalid option
return: usage: return [n]
insmod: error inserting '/usr/local/ism/driver/imb.ko': -1 Invalid module format
/bin/mknod: missing operand after `0'
Try `/bin/mknod --help' for more information.
Intel IPMI Driver installation is complete.

S2600CP2 - Deployment Assistant 'Internal Error: unable to proceed"

I updated S2600CP2 board using Intel Deployment Assistant 5 (build5 - most recent), updating from a network source.
S2600CP_SFUP_BIOS02010002_ME020107231_BMC0119r5018_FRUSDR110.ZIP

The README advised to update in order, so I booted from the Deployment Assistant disk, and updated to

BIOS: 02.01.0002 successfully.   I booted again, and updated to  BMC: 1.19.r5018 successfully.  I booted again to update ME firmware from 02.01.07.112 to 02.01.07.231 but after about 1/3 of detecting my configuration, it stopped with the error 'Internal Error: unable to proceed".

After power off, reboot, tried again - same result.

How can I finish the installs which were part of this package?

We have an Intel Modular Server having a network issue:

MFSYS25V2 Firmware 10.18.100.20130627.38849

3 Compute Modules model MFS5520VIR firmware 1.27.1

1 Gigabit Ethernet Switch AXXSW1GB firmware 1.0.0.28

1 Chassis Management Module firmware E91057-302

1 Server Storage Module firmware 3.11.0140.11

We use Server Ports 1.1, 2.1, 3.1 in VLAN99 connected through Ext. 1 to a HP switch at our DMZ.  Network 192.168.1.0. No issues there.

We want Server Ports 1.2, 2.2, 3.2 in VLAN 1 (default) connected through Ext. 3 (or any) to our Cisco 5500 Nexus.  Network 10.1.4.0. When we connect this VLAN to our 5500, the Cisco port is immediately shutdown with a Spanning Tree error (BPDU).

IMS MFSYS25 - Bad sector found

$

0

Hi,

one of my drives alerts:

Description: Bad sector has been found on physical disk

Probable Cause: Encountered a media error.

Corrective Action: Check if the virtual drive is redundant or not. If the

virtual drive is not redundant, there may be data lost. The user should

replace the bad physical disk and rebuild the storage pool, and if the

virtual drive is offline reload the data from a backup.

What does this exactly mean? The"Corrective Action is somewhat ambigous...

One physical drive has a bad sector, but the physical drive should be able to handle bad sectors and relocate it internally.

Does this alert now mean that the drive (already) failed to relocate the sector because too many bad sectors have already been relocated?

Or does this mean nothing at the moment as the drive relocated the sector and just also informed the SCM about this first occurrence?

In the first case I should really replace the drive immediately in the other case ...

(If I would get an alert for every bad sector I would sooner or later drown in such alerts.)

Problem is that this is a Seagate Savvio 10K 2 900 GB ST9900805SS (6 months in use, 5Y warranty).

Seagate requires for replacement to run several checks on the drive which is not possible as long as it is running inside the IMS.

Also if they find out the there was a single bad sector which was properly relocated, they would probably charge me...

What would be a good way to get the full SMART-Information form that drive including the size of the remaining relocation table?

Any advice?

Just for intel: the IMS is fully upgraded to comply with the latest THOL, i.e. PSs and IO-FAN have been upgraded as well as FW (which was done because we had a lot of trouble with Toshiba MBF2600RC and Bad Sectors).

Thanks

M.

syscfg help with linux

$

Hi,

I'm using syscfg Version 11.0 Build 12 on CentOS 6.5 on a S2600GZ motherboard.  I'm having problems getting useful output from syscfg

For example,

# /usr/bin/syscfg/syscfg /d biossettings
An unknown error occured

or

# /usr/bin/syscfg/syscfg /d biossettings 'Quiet Boot'
No data returned from CR
An unknown error occured

but I can successfully do both a 'syscfg /bbo' and 'syscfg /prp OFF' even if I can't see the power settings.  What am I missing?

Is my plan to increase raid drive sizes and change partition sizes workable?

$

0

I am going to replace the raid drives on my server and wanted to know if my plan will work before I actually attempt it.

I have a server board S1200BTL using ESRT II with 2 1TB SATA drives configured as Raid 1 in slots 0 and 1.

The operating system is Windows Server 2008 R2.

The virtual raid drive is configured with 2 partitions with an operating system partition and a data partition.

I need to add space to the operating system partition and as the drives have been in use for about 2 years l felt is was probably a good time to replace them.

The plan I have developed is as follows:

1. Remove the two existing raid drives (slots 0 and 1) and replace them with new unformatted 2TB drives.

2. Boot to the ESRT bios configuration and create a new raid 1 configuration.

3. Shut down the system, install the original slot 0 drive into slot 3.

4 Insert a bootable DVD with the WD version of Acronis disc Wizard cloning  program and clone the original raid drive (in slot 3) onto the new virtual raid drive. This process includes increasing the sizes of the old partitions.

5. Shut down the system, remove the slot 3 drive and DVD and reboot into the Windows Operating System.

Anyone have any thoughts about this working or not?

Thanks

MFSYS25 Switch module problem

Hi,

I have network problem with my Intel MFSYS22 (Current Build Version: 6.10.100.20120307.34729) Switch module.

2600GZ based server, bios issues, fan speed

$

We are basing an appliance on the intel , which is now 3 seperate components instead of a single sku:R2224GZ4GC, RMS25CB080 & RES2CV360

the bios that ships with the older R2224GZ4GCSAS sku has an incredibly quiet fan speed it defaults to, which is fine, because our appliance will only have low heat hybrid drives, or ssd's.

I have upgraded the bios on one of our test nodes to the latest available for download, which does fix some issues we had with pci bios memory posting errors, however it kicks the fans up to a much louder default speed, and no amount of adjusting settings in the bios is able to fix it.

what can i do to run the new bios, and maintain the fan setting from the shipped bios.

I'm concerned that the bios in the R2224GZ4GC will ship upgraded, and I don't want to have to downgrade.

Can I get the snmp subagent for the hardware S5000PHB .

Hi,

We are using the Intel server of a type hardware S5000PHB. So far we were using RHEL 5 linux on the same hardware and now we are migrated to RHEL 6. So we need snmpsa rpm or software which is compatible for RHEL 6 linux kernel. Thereby we could able to monitor the hardware health.

Please do the needful.

Ghost network adapters in Server 2012

$

I have a P4208CP4MHGC server with a S2600CP4 motherboard with 4 I350 nic ports. I have also installed an I350T4BLK server adapter with 4 ports.

It's running Server 2012 Std. edition with the Hyper-V role.

Before I set the binding order of the nics, I was having trouble with it shuffling them when rebooted. This created new adapters Ethernet 9-16, leaving my original named adapters as ghost in Device Manager when viewing Hidden devices. I cannot uninstall these ghost adapters. I found this MS KB article that describes my problem, but it doesn't work. Error message when you try to set an IP address on a network adapter

When I try to uninstall them, it acts like it's doing it, but after it refreshes the page, they are still there. Rebooting didn't help either.

Any ideas on how to get rid of them?

JBOD2312S2SP Power Supply Issue?

I have a JBOD2312S2SP Intel Raid Enclosure (Intel® Storage Systems JBOD Family) at my house and woke up to screaming fan noises.  Warning light was blinking and the console showed this:

Note I only have one power supply so if the cable was removed not sure how it was still running.  Right after that warning received the below messages copied from the logs so the top one is the latest:

Last message until 6 minutes later I powered up a computer to remove in and shutdown the system.  Pulled the power plug, put it back in, powered everything up, and it's running right now without issue.  Thoughts?

Edit:  As a side note, the Intel Raid Web Console shows this drive cage with 2 power supplies.  Always did.  I only have one.  So not sure if that's just how many it can hold or if it's just not intelligent enough to detect the number of drives.

Thanks.

I have a new server with motherboard Asus mod. Z9PE-D16, Intel C602-A PCH, Dual lga2011, 16xDDR3EccR/Max512GB, 4xGBLan+IPMI, Vga Int., 4xSata2 2xSata3 Raid 0,1,5,10, 2+2USB2.0, 4xPci-ex16, 1xPci-ex8, Seriale, 2xPS/2.

I have set RAID MODE or AHCI but when i start installation of the operating system (server windows 2012 r2 essential) i'm stuck because don't find a driver (i think the intel raid drive).

I have downloaded new drive on Asus Support Site, Intel support site but I always get the result that the installation hangs.

I am attaching images of the problem, unfortunately in Italian

thanks for your attention
