Replacement drive in RAID 10 not member
I have an Intel ICH9R SATA RAID with four drives configure in RAID 10. One of the drives failed. I replaced it with the same model drive (WD5000AAKS), but the new drive just says "Non-RAID Disk" in the SATA RAID Utility and there is no functionality in the Utility to change the individual drive's status.
How do I make the new drive part of the existing (degraded) RAID to rebuild?
Removal of SAS R5 from RSTe....does ESRT2 EFI Boot?
Hello,
I had previously offered the RKSAS4R5 as a software RAID 5 option for SAS disks. RSTe has been the preferred configuration because firstly it supports EFI boot and secondly I could pre-install the console to manage the RAID array. One downside was that I couldn't designate a hot spare in the RSTe BIOS utility and had to wait until I had the console installed on the OS, yes I know CLi exists but it's too much hardship for me.
I was disappointed to see that in the latest RSTe driver/BIOS that SAS R5 has been removed so previously where the RKSAS4R5 would operate in both RSTs and ESRT2 mode it will now work in ESRT2 mode only.
A few questions as a result.
- Why was SAS R5 removed from RSTe driver 3.8.0.1111?
- Will SAS R5 support be added back at a later date?
- Can current implementations of ESRT2 allow EFI BOOT?
- Is ESRT2 performance below par when compared to RSTe
- We build servers for resellers and I understand that the Intel RAID Web console cannot be pre-installed from a Windows Server audit boot environment because firstly an administrator password is required and secondly if the reseller changes the default server name (100% likely) the installation no longer works. Is my understanding correct or can Intel RAID Web Console 2 be pre-installed?
Of course one advantage to using ESRT2 is that I can pre designate a hot spare in the BIOS setup. Why can hot spares not be designated in the BIOS pages for the RSTe?
Regards,
GT

1. SAS features are enabled on SATA/SAS Capable Controller if appropriate Intel(R) RAID C600 Upgrade Key is present in the system.
2. RAID 5 is no longer supported by SATA/SAS Capable Controller when SAS features are enabled.
W2600CR2 w/E5-2687W QA91 B0 ES processors
Hello i was given a board to run different core count tests on to find the efficiency of these processors with different amount of cores enabled, and cannot get the system to boot, does anyone know if these boards are out of the box compatible with these processors, i have an asus p9x79 that is and find it odd that these will not boot to an intel board.
Thank you everyone for your time and effort. Chris.
S2600-CP2 flashing orange light...
I have a server with a S2600-CP2 motherboard that is telling me (through the flashing orange light on the sever board) that the fans in my server chassis are not functioning. The reality of the situation is that the fans are functioning fine, they just don't have the proper leads to connect them to the server board and as a result the server board doesn't know that they are there. The server is running fine.
I've searched and searched for instructions on how to tun this warning light off, but I have been unable to figure out what I need to do.
Would anyone be able to point me to some instructions on how I can change the server board settings so that it ignores the chassis fan speeds?
remote (ipmi console) BIOS configuration of RS25CB080
I have a server in a remote location that boots from a RAID array on a RS25CB080. I need to reconfigure this array but I only have remote IPMI console access so I cannot use the RAID BIOS Console 2 Utility.
Given that it's the machine's boot disk which is the array I want to reconfigure (yes, I will lose data on the array, I understand) I am figuring I cannot use the Intel RAID Web Console 2 either.
Is there any way to do this using a standard CLI based BIOS console that will operate over the IPMI console redirection feature of the server?
Xeon Phi refuses Putty log in
Hi,
I am trying to log into a Xeon Phi 3120A for the first time using Putty, but the log-in is refused and the connection asks for a password.
What I am doing is:
1. Create public and private keys in puttygen (SSH2-RSA 1024 bit)
2. Register the public keys with the Xeon Phi with
micctrl --addssh root -f "C:\Program Files\Intel\MPSS\bin\authorized_keys"
It says:
root: Updated with authorized key
3. micctrl --stop and then --start
4. Start putty and log into root@192.168.1.100 with SSH auth set to use the private keys saved in a ppk file.
There is then a PuTTY Security Alert saying that the new rsa2 fingerprint does not match the one PuTTY has cached in the registry.
If I click Yes to update the cache, the log in says:
Using username "root"
Server refused our key
root@192.168.1.100's password:[]
Any idea what I am doing wrong or what I should try next?
Thanks
Intel Server Board SE7520AF2 will not boot
Hi
Server board: SE7520AF2
This server has been running fine for years up until today when I rebooted it remotely to find a black screen on the display.
I rebooted several times, and no BIOS screen appears.
the LED diagnostics on the board show;
BIT 4 (MSB) = RED
BIT 3 = RED
BIT 2 = AMBER
BIT 1 (LSB) = AMBER
the LED lights flash in different sequence every so often.
When I remove all RAM, receive beeps which I understand means the mainboard isn't fried.
I have removed all RAM and seated only 1 piece into the first slot. No good
I have formatted USB key using FAT16 , and copied the AMIBOOT.ROM to the USB key, changed jumper J1D1 to recovery, however do not know of the recovery bios loads (waited 5 mins when returned jumper back and still no luck on reboot)
RAM i'm using : samsung 1GB 1Rx4 PC2 3200R 333 10C1
please help as server is down!
2600GZ based server, bios issues, fan speed
We are basing an appliance on the intel , which is now 3 seperate components instead of a single sku:R2224GZ4GC, RMS25CB080 & RES2CV360
the bios that ships with the older R2224GZ4GCSAS sku has an incredibly quiet fan speed it defaults to, which is fine, because our appliance will only have low heat hybrid drives, or ssd's.
I have upgraded the bios on one of our test nodes to the latest available for download, which does fix some issues we had with pci bios memory posting errors, however it kicks the fans up to a much louder default speed, and no amount of adjusting settings in the bios is able to fix it.
what can i do to run the new bios, and maintain the fan setting from the shipped bios.
I'm concerned that the bios in the R2224GZ4GC will ship upgraded, and I don't want to have to downgrade.
S5520sc with chassis s5300base Fan running high speed
Iam having s5520sc which is assembled in s5300 chassis , the fan inside running high speed. heavy noice coming out. why intel server chassis fans are high speed running and make noise that distrub a lot while working. how to solve it please help me.
Case Fan 1 stuck at 100% P4308XXMHGC with S2600CP4
Hi,
I have updated the BIOS etc with the UEFI bootloader and updated the SDR/FRU which detected my chassis.
I have tried changing the fan order, when I remove a single fan the PSU fans spin up as do the other 4 case fans (chassis open held down), the system is horrendously loud with fan 1 at this level permanently. Interestingly the rest of the fans all seem to be behaving normally.
I have loaded the UEFI SELVIEWER and even as I am plugging in and removing the fans and refreshing the log there's nothing in there at all.
Would really appreciate some help. I also have the exclamation mark permanently lit on the front of the case but I'm not sure what that means.
Thanks
Intel S1200BTL motherboard and Adaptec 6405/6805 RAID controller
The Adaptec 6405/6805 RAID controller will be not recognized and didn´t start in the system during a reboot (Alt-Ctrl-Del and power button).
Only when we remove the power cable and start again the controller starts.
We had different systems with the S1200BTL board in a SR1304 system and Chenbro chassis.
Configurations is with the E3-1230/1240 CPU and 16 GB RAM.
All with the same problem.
RMM3 Cable
Hi all,
I need to replace the cable going from my RMM3 module to the serve rboard with a longer one (the module comes with 1 short and 1 long and I need to replace 2 short with 2 long for my 2 servers.
I'm having lots of difficulty sourcing these cables (particularly in the UK). Does anyone have the part code for the cable, or are these cables also used on other modules that I may have more luck in searching for (now that the RMM3 is superseded) They are 34pin ribbon cablesmodl_3
I am quite desperate for these if anyone can help it'll be greatly appreciated.
Matt
Intel Server P4208CP4MHGC S2600CP4 WHEA Error 47
I have an Intel P4208CP4MHGC with S2600CP4 motherboard, Intel Xeon E5-2620V2, and the latest bios/firmware package from Intel 9/20/13.
OS: Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter
BIOS : 02.01.0002
ME : 02.01.07.231
BMC : 1.19.r5018
FRUSDR : 1.10
For some reason this server is throwing a whole ton of WHEA Logger Errors from Server Manager in the Events Section of the dashboard. Around 2000 of these warnings are generated at intervals of every 10 minutes.
The ID is: 47 Severity: Warning Log: System
A corrected hardware error has occurred.
Component: Memory
Error Source: Corrected Machine Check
I've read about this issue on other manufacturers platforms and it seems bios updates generally fix the problem.
I've run Memtest86 overnight, with no errors generated, so I do not believe the issue is in RAM, but I could be wrong.
RAID: Potential non-optimal configuration due, PD commissioned as Emergency Spare
I recently bought some 4TB disks (WD4003FZEX) to make a new RAID to replace an old one that failed. Because my old intel RAID card did not support 4TB disks, I bought a new raid card as well (RS2BL080DE). I created a raid-10 using 4 disks to use as backup storage and started a big rsync. During that operation, two of the disks were marked as failed and taken offline - but luckily, the RAID was only degraded and not failed. The problem may be the disks, but I realized I had woefully out of date firmware and drivers for the raid card, mother board and OS - any of which might also have been the culprit. So, I upgraded all of the drivers and firmware and my OS (to CentOS 6.5) and installed the latest version of RAID Web Console 2. After all that, I told the RAID card to rebuild the failed disks (one at a time). The rebuild went OK and the RAID was brought back to "optimal", however, those two disks are now marked as "emergency spare" and once per day I get an email reminder for each of them resembling the following:
Controller ID: 0 Reminder: Potential non-optimal configuration due, PD commissioned as Emergency Spare -:-:2
Event ID:406

Firmware Package Version: 12.13.0-0154

I'm running on linux (CentOS 6.5) and using RWC2, but I cannot figure out any way to tell the RAID that these disks are not emergency spares. I'm not even sure what it means to be an emergency spare at the same time that a disk is part of the RAID array.
Can anyone help me resolve this problem? Thanks.

Intel Matrix Storage Console will not open in Windows
Hi all,
This is my first time posting here. I currently have a server that we cannot connect to. We had a power outage yesterday and it looks like the server is rebuilding. The icon for rebuilding shows in the corner of Windows on the Storage Console. However when I click on the icon to review the controllers all that comes up is restore/minimize/maximize/close bar. If I click to maximize nothing comes up. If I try to drag the box to open it, nothing comes up.
Any ideas on how to get the screen to come up normally?
Thanks,
Larry

Best performance and fault tolerance options for embedded RAID (CacheCade?)
I'm trying to figure out if I need a separate RAID card or if I can get the embedded one (S2600CP2 motherboard) to work fast and reliably. Without write caching (WC) enabled on a VD I'm not going to get enough performance and WC of course is not fault tolerant without a BBU or equivalent. If I upgrade (with the C600 RAID key) and enable SSD Caching, does this provide the equivalent performance to WC while at the same time providing increased fault tolerance?
In other words, does SSD Caching on a RAID1 array speed up performance while having some benefit to data protection in the case of an unexpected power loss, i.e. will I get the performance and data protection somewhat equivalent to one of the cards with included Flash and BBU (e.g. RS2VB080)?
Also, would I enable WC now on an array with SSD Caching, or never use WC?
Thanks,
Nick.
