S2600CO & pass-through disks

Greetings,

I'm trying to install Debian Wheezy and the SAS/SATA connected hard disks are not being detected during the installation process.  Below is the hardware I'm working with:

1) 2600COE server board (no C600 upgrade key)

4) 1 Tbyte Seagate Barracuda drives connected to the SAS/SATA ports

1) 120 Gbyte SSD attached to the SATA port

1) DVD attached to the SATA port.

I want to manage the disks through the operating system not via RSTe or ESRT2(LSI*), so the disks should just pass-through.  I've tried all the settings under

BIOS SAS/SATA Capable Controller

without any luck.  I've read about needing Redhat or Suse drivers but I'm installing Debian.  Any thoughts?

I am able to install snmpsa rpm successfully.

I would like to received the traps in another windows machine. For that I added below entried in the snmpd.conf file

am i missing any configuration either in snmpd.conf or snmpsa.conf files?

Thanks for your inputs in well advance.

To send SNMP Traps do i need to install any OpenIPMI drivers?if yes where can i find the openIPMI rpm?

Hi,

Our product is moving from rhel 5 to rhel 6. The Mother board of the product is INTEL S5000PHB type. We need the snmp subagent rpm for rhel 6. Does it exist? Is there any other place where we can get it? We also need the ipmi driver rpm for rhel 6 x86_64. I actually downloaded the imbsrc tar from intel and tried to compile for rhel 6 i386 32 bit  kernel. It compiled successfully but gives the following error while installing. I am not able to aompile in the 64 bit kernel at all as it says ioctl32.h is not present

This install does not recognize this motherboard.
You can contact your platform vendor to verify IPMI support.
conflict with OpenIPMI driver
/usr/local/ism/driver/imbload: line 47: return: -1: invalid option
return: usage: return [n]
insmod: error inserting '/usr/local/ism/driver/imb.ko': -1 Invalid module format
/bin/mknod: missing operand after `0'
Try `/bin/mknod --help' for more information.
Intel IPMI Driver installation is complete.

S2600CP2 - Can't load ACHI drivers in Server 2012R2 for Samsung 840SSD

$

In a working Windows Server 2012R2 system on an S2600CP2 board, I have four non-RAID drives installed on the AHCI controller, and the SAS/SATA Capable Controller is disabled.   On that controller:

  • 2 Samsung 840 Pro SSDs on the 6GB/s ports 0 and 1.
  • a Samsung 840 Pro SSD on 3GB/s port 2.
  • a 2TB Western Digital WD2000FYYZ installed on 3GB/s port 3.
  • a DVD/CD drive is installed on port 5.

The "ACHI Capable SATA Controller" is set in the BIOS to be in [ACHI] mode.

Windows Server installation detected these drives and under the Driver Properties tab of Device Manager properties for the SSDs it lists:
Driver Provider: Microsoft

Driver Date: 6/21/2006

Driver Version: 6.3.9600.16384

Driver Signer: Microsoft.

I'd initially had VSS errors with Windows Server Backup on these SSDs and the 2TB WD drive  (backing up and external USB drive).  Microsoft support was able to correct this by setting paging files on each SSD and various other tweaks.

A technician on SAMSUNGs support site said there were no special drivers for them - but noted that in the Device Manager they were listed as SCSI drives & that was not good.   I removed and redetected each device - and the 'SCSI' disappeared from the description, but the driver used was as noted above.

On Intel's download site for Windows Server 2012R2 and S2600CP2, I found

RSTe_and_AHCI_Drivers_GUI_CIM_CLI_3.8.0.1111_2013.09.26.zip  v3.8.1111  dated 10/4/2013.

And it was stated: "Note: Package Version = 3.8.0.1111 adds support for Windows Server 2012 R2"

Splendid I thought - I will update the drivers.

I downloaded and unzipped the files, and in the Device Manager I selected a drive, right clicked, and picked "Update Driver Software"

No matter how I tried, the OS would not update the drivers for the 2TB or the SSDs.  When I selected the driver myself from those unzipped to:

G:\DOWNLOADS - INTEL\Intel RSTe_and_AHCI\RSTe_and_AHCI_Drivers_GUI_CIM_CLI_3.8.0.1111_2013.09.26\Drivers\x64_win8_server12\AHCI

this error was presented:

The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device.  If the folder contains a driver, make sure its designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems.

  1. Should I even attempt to update the drivers?
  2. Why can't the drivers in this folder be installed on Windows Server 2012R2 when the documentation says they are supported for that OS?
  3. I don't have a lot of experience at this - what am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

S2600CP2 - Deployment Assistant 'Internal Error: unable to proceed"

I updated S2600CP2 board using Intel Deployment Assistant 5 (build5 - most recent), updating from a network source.
S2600CP_SFUP_BIOS02010002_ME020107231_BMC0119r5018_FRUSDR110.ZIP

The README advised to update in order, so I booted from the Deployment Assistant disk, and updated to

BIOS: 02.01.0002 successfully.   I booted again, and updated to  BMC: 1.19.r5018 successfully.  I booted again to update ME firmware from 02.01.07.112 to 02.01.07.231 but after about 1/3 of detecting my configuration, it stopped with the error 'Internal Error: unable to proceed".

After power off, reboot, tried again - same result.

How can I finish the installs which were part of this package?

After a change of a LSI 9266-8i Controller with same one, my motherboard doesn't work any more,
Have System Status LED solid amber light & ID LED solid blue light!

I cannot turn off the ID LED, I tried to clear cmos, last night I live the Server without Power, . . . .

What does it mean?

For the amber System Status Light I found:

Fatal alarm – system has failed or shut down

– CPU Missing

– Thermal Trip asserted

– Non-recoverable temperature threshold asserted

– Non-recoverable voltage threshold asserted

– Power fault/Power Control Failure

– Fan redundancy lost, insufficient system cooling. This

does not apply to non-redundant systems.

– Power supply redundancy lost insufficient system power.

This does not apply to non-redundant systems.

Note: This state also occurs when AC power is first applied to

the system. This indicates the BMC is booting.

Tried with other 100% working cpu,s

Tried the motherboard in a SC5650BRP Case, the same problem, solid System Status LED (amber) and solid ID LED (blue)

All fan's ok

All powersupplies are ok

Motherboard: S5520HC

2x Xeon L5630

Case SC5600BRP (2x750W)

Kingston RAM 6x8 GB 1333

What can I try? Or is this motherboard fault ???

Sorry for my bad english !

Intel Atom C2000 Rangeley UART-SMBUS Multiplexing

$

In Atom Processor C2000 family,we are using C2338 part.

In the C2000 spec update by intel,it is mentioned in the errata no AVR3,"Disabling One UART Disables Both UARTs"

No fix is there for this errata.

Out of the two multiplexed UARTs,Our requirement is to use one UART & other for SMBUS2 interface.

UART0 is multiplexed with SMBUS & has control register to enable or disable.

Also the CFIO_REGS_PAD_SMB_DATA2_PCONF0 is used to select the UART0 or SMBUS functionality.

Selecting the UART0 Control register to its default value(ie. 1b = enable)& changing the IO select register to select the SMBUS

cause any conflicts? As we need the SMBUS2 for reading the processor die temperature.

The UART1 which is multiplexed with GPIO, we plan to use as UART interface only for connecting a LCD display.

So kindly let us know, is this errata applicable to all other SKUs of C2000?

Advice us the implementation of our requirement related to this errata AVR3.

Intel Embedded Server RAID Technology II - Rebuild RAID 1 Array

I have a server with Intel motherboard and Intel Embedded Server RAID Technology II.  The server has (2) 1 TB drives in a RAID 1 cfg.  One of the drives failed.  I purchased a new 1 TB drive.  New drive is Western Digital.  Existing drive is Seagate.  After booting to Windows Server 2008 R2 the Intel Raid Web Console shows that the array is rebuilding   But progress showed estimate of 52 hours to complete.  So, I changed the rebuild rate from 50% to 100% and the progress window estimated 36 hours to complete.

This morning, after approx. 20 hours, it shows 50% complete and estimated 1 hour remaining. Seems like it has hung.

Do I continue to wait?  Does 36 hours to rebuild 1 TB array sound right?  Would it be faster if I entered Ctrl + E during POST to start rebuild before Windows loads?  If I restart computer does rebuild start from beginning or from where it left off?  Does the Intel/LSI RAID driver check the new drive capacity before it starts to rebuild so that I know the new drive from different mfg. should work, or could this be a problem, i.e. drives from different manufacturers a problem even though the rebuild started?

Thanks very much for any insights!

Intel Modular Server, adding new virtual drive and increasing drive size

$

My apologies if I'm posting in the wrong forum, I wasn't sure if there was a better place for this.

I am the IT guy for a small rural hospital.  Our Electronic Medical Record System (EMR) is housed on three servers in an Intel Modular Server Chassis.  This system was set up before I got here, and I have had no prior experience with the Modular Server (MFSYS25).  There are two issues I'm having trouble with, and was hoping I could get some help from the experts.

1.  The C: drive on a couple of servers is starting get a little cramped.  I tried expanding the size of the drive from the console, but this change does not appear in the OS (MS Server 2008).  The drive size is the same as it was.

2.  I took some of the unallocated storage from one of the two storage pools to create a new virtual drive and assigned it to one of the servers.  However, the new drive does not show up in the OS.

I'm sure the the issues are related, but I'm not sure what I'm missing.  I rebooted the server.  I also shut down the server, unassigned and then reassigned the drive and brought the server back up.  In both cases, I still didn't get the desired results.  Could somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Intel Server Motherboards interfacing with Redundant Power Supplies from Third Party Vendors

$

I have  Rack Mounted Server assembly that we utilize a Chenbro Chassis with a redundant power supply unit. My basic requirement is to monitor the status of the redundant power supplies via the Intel SNMP Agent.  I have been unable to find the specific requirements of the power supply that are needed to provide the Intel Server motherboard with so the BMC will monitor the status of the redundant power supplies.  The chassis manufacturer does not seem very open to discussing this and if they understand the requirements and provide what is necessary on the power supply end.

My current power supply is a AcBel Model PS-R2IS7871A-G

My current Intel motherboard is a S1400FP2

Reviewing the technical specifications of the motherboard, it definitely supports monitoring redundant power supplies as there are multiple entries discussion this topic, but no specific mention of requirements.

I have noticed on the S1200RPM motherboard test for redundancy of power unit during a bios/bmc update , but it doesn't appear the S1400FP2 does.

I will attempt to take my power supply and hook it to the S1200RPM motherboard and see if it will monitor the redundant power supply units, but that doesn't solve my problem as my project requires an E5 processor.

I also understand I can solve this problem with using a Intel Server System, but the server system that meet my other requirements will cost $1000 more per unit, which is wasteful on a project that needs 20 units.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brady
