Help with S5000PSL

$

0

Hey there, recently purchased a custom server thing that includes the Intel server case and Intel S500PSL motherboard featuring two Xeon E5335 processors (@2.00GHZ).

I did some awesome custom work to it, such as installing a sound card, GTX 260 graphics card, 750W power supply and a couple other things like wifi and two WD raptor drives.

I was looking for help because I want to upgrade the processors and have no idea what the heck to do. I am a college guy and have a small electronics and computer repair store but

have never done anything of BIOS updates or CPU swaps of this caliber.

I was hoping to get the super fast Xeon X5470 Because I know I need a socket 771 1333MHZ cpu, HOWEVER I dont know if the Harpertown is supported...

Maybe the X5365 Clovertown is a better bet?

I've pulled all the info I can from the intel server management local host thing. I believe my board is the S500PSLSATAR

JBOD2312S2SP Power Supply Issue?

I have a JBOD2312S2SP Intel Raid Enclosure (Intel® Storage Systems JBOD Family) at my house and woke up to screaming fan noises.  Warning light was blinking and the console showed this:

Note I only have one power supply so if the cable was removed not sure how it was still running.  Right after that warning received the below messages copied from the logs so the top one is the latest:

Last message until 6 minutes later I powered up a computer to remove in and shutdown the system.  Pulled the power plug, put it back in, powered everything up, and it's running right now without issue.  Thoughts?

Edit:  As a side note, the Intel Raid Web Console shows this drive cage with 2 power supplies.  Always did.  I only have one.  So not sure if that's just how many it can hold or if it's just not intelligent enough to detect the number of drives.

Thanks.

MFSYS35 with external sorage unit.

Hi,

I have a MFSYS35 with a single SCM module installed in it. This has the shared LUN feature activated.

This is located  at remote site so I cant test this so need advise before I go.

I have been given a HP P2000 storage unit that has dual SAS controllers to connect to the MFSYS35. I was also given a PCI HBA card with SAS connectors, which OI assume I cant use in the MFSYS35.

Can I connect the P2000 to the SAS port on the SCM? I realise that as I have not got two SCM's installed that the 2nd SAS controller on the P2000 will not be used.

I then assume I have to configure the RAID on the P2000, but will I then see this in the Modular Server Control management interface? And can I then assign this to the storage pool I have already?

Will this external enclosure work with the shared lun feature?

Thanks.

Is there a better or faster way to do this?

I have a RAID 1 array composed of two 250GB HDDs using the Intel ICH9R controller. Both member disks are bootable (WinXP), but one has failed, (according to the Matrix Storage Console).  An exact replacement for the failed HDD is no longer available so I have purchased two 500GB drives.

I want to be up and running ASAP so I plan to proceed as follows:

  1. Do a full backup of the surviving disk
  2. Create a new RAID 1 array (500GB) via the ICH9R and the WinXP install CD
  3. Copy the contents of the surviving disk to the new RAID

What do you think? Is there a better or faster way to proceed?

RS2WC080 driver gives error "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

I purchased an rs2wc080 raid adapter a few weeks ago but couldn't get it going on my evga 680i motherboard (doesn't seem to like non-graphics cards in its PCI-e x16 slots). Fortunately I did have a test machine with xp on it to validate the rs2wco080 works. I ended up buying an Intel S3420GPLC motherboard just so I could get the adapter working.

I was able to set up a raid 50 array (using the rs2wco080's built in utility on boot up). I then was able to install Cyrix Xenserver 5.5 and the card seem to function propertly (I was able to create storage repositories using the raided drives). However, a ended up reloading the system with a fresh install Windows 2008 x64 (Note: not R2) with all the updates as of the date of this post. All the drivers seem to work the rs2wc080. While the installation starts at the end Windows gives the error

"Windows found the driver software for your device but encountered an error while trying to install it. Intel Raid Controller RS2WC080 This device cannot start. (Code 10)".

I downloaded the latest drivers for the rs2wco080 from Intel's website (ir3_Windows_signed_DRV_v4.32.0.xx) and installed from the W2K8_x64 folder. As an experiment I also tried uninstalling the drivers and resinstalling with R2 version. (same error).

Thanks for any help

IMS Intel Modular Server vs large drives (512 emulated, ST1800MM0128)

$

Hi,

since may 2011 we are running IMS (MFSYS25V1, Firmare 6.9) and are still happy with performance, but our DATA messies keep collecting everything that they see (common problem everywhere).

So we decided to add more storage, but face two problems:

1) There is no new external Storage available that connects propperly to the miniSAS.

2) the THOL rev 3_6 is terribly outdated (well, MFSYS is EOL)

We are running already a mix of 600, 900 and 1200 GB Drives (all Seagate) that are not in the THOL but they are stable and work perfectly.

We now decided to give 1800GB drives a chance. A clear statement from intel was "4k-native is technically impossible" but neither intel nor Seagate could give an answer for 512 emulated drives.

After short discussion we decided to give them a try. Two ST1800MM0128 were added to free slots and are now ready for testing.

1) The drives report correct

2) no problem to create a Raid 1E-Pool, virtual disk, VM-Datastore, VM-disk

3) no problem from a W2K8 box moving several 100 GB to the drive and back
4) HDD tested with passmark

Result: no problems

Please add comments on similar experience, proposals for further test and share this knowledge to others.

It would be nice to compile a community based THOL, because I am convinced there are still many IMS out there, that perform a great job, but suffer from storage

s2600cp and P4308XXMHGC Tower Chassis. Updated bios from 02.03.0003 to 02.05.0004 lost FRUSDR settings. Fans now run full speed. Can't get back settings.

So as title says. I have a server that has been running fine. Going to in the near future move over to a virtual setup with it. Right now it is just running Server 2008 R2 and SQL2008.

I did the EFI Bios update from 02.03.0003 to 02.05.0004. When I was doing it, I received an error on the bios update.

"bios update the capsule file failed in the security compliance check" So the Bios did not update but all the other Bios did. Then when I got to the last part of the Bios Update the FRUSDR part, I got the msg: "Fan Configuration is not Valid, falling back to user Selection as Auto-detection is not possible. I get 3 options.

Select the SKUs:

1 Intel (R) Server Chassis P4000M Non Redundant Fan SKU

2 Intel (R) Server Chassis P4000M Redundant Fan SKU

3 Other Chassis

I choose 2 and get

Power Supply is not detected.

Hot Swap Backplane is not detected.

Probing sensors for SDR through CFG Started

and the search process takes place.

So when done and reboot my fans are running full speed.

So First thing I do is a Bios Emergency Restore and restored 02.03.0003 Bios.  It took. Then I did the EFI Bios for 02.05.0004 again. Everything went fine The Bios took no problem till I got to the FRUSDR Update. Same thing again. I also checked that my Fan settings in Bios are Accoustic.

The short is after running the Bios a few more times Only choosing Update SDR and trying to manually enter Chassis info I have gotten the fans to run half speed.

There is also a lot of things screwed up in BMC Web Console. No sensors show up. some pages pop up 404.

Under system health in between  events  at attempts at trying to work with FRUSDR settings. I did receive "System Fan 2   reports the sensor is in a low, critical, and going lower state - Asserted"

So could I have a bad fan causing the system not to autodetect? I have a new Server with a P4304 Chassis that has not gone into production yet so I could try some fan swaps.

Pretty much right now I am not sure where to continue with this.

I have included a screen cap of the FRU info from BMC Web at end of post

The Chassis information section Is where I manually entered info. I got the serial number wrong. Not sure If I put part number in right either. You can also see the drop down box does not show Baseboard but Wingdings and when I click on it it will not drop down to the other options.

I either need to know why it is not Auto Detecting. or be able to manually enter in the right info. That is where I am at. Help Please. Thank You!

Differences between SR2625URLX vs. SR2625URLXR ?

Hello,

re: Differences between SR2625URLX vs. SR2625URLXR

I checked Intel's comparison tool (link here) but from what I can tell there's not much difference hardware-wise between the two. Can someone please tell me what the differences are (if any) between these two server models?

Thanks!

S5500BC EFI firmware update S5500BC_EFI_BIOS64_BMC61_FRUSDR22_ME112 now to video our anything

S5500BC, Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz, Chassis: SC5650BRP, 6 Bay drive enclosure. EFI update used, EFI Firmware update S5500BC_EFI_BIOS64_BMC61_FRUSDR22_ME112, indicated it was updating from 58 to 60 ran thru the process then on recycle have not had video or anything since. Indicator lights on the motherboard makes me think that it is recycling but no indication of errors. Have tried recovery mode (change jumper) but of course without video can't tell what is happening or if actually initializing and running.

Any thoughts or direction would be greatly appreciated.

S2600CP4 not recognized by IDA

Alright, so here is issue one of a list of things wrong with this board.

I am trying to get Intel's Deployment Agent up and running to help update the bios on this board as it was shipped with what seems to be a pre-production BIOS. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to want to recognize it is an S2600CP.

IMG_20160201_171417[1].jpg

If anyone knows the solution to this problem, it would be greatly appreciated. And if anyone is willing to help me with some other issues as well, it would be GREATLY appreciated, as this board is becoming more of a pain than what it's worth.

HNS2600JF Does Not Post - Debug Tips?

I have a HNS2600JF compute node that does not post.  First, the fan would spin up slowly, then a few beeps, then a long series of quite a few beeps, then the fan would rev up to max.  There is nothing on the VGA display, just the fan running at max.

Any idea on how I may debug?   Is using the status leds the only option to get some diagnostics?

Thanks

What is 82575EB NIC's latest driver for WS2012R2

Hi,

I have S5520HC that have 82575EB on board NIC's. I've upgraded server to WS2012R2 from 2012

The default driver from WS2012R2 is present but It doesn't have Teaming feature.

I have tried to install ethernet driver 20.5 from downloadcetner.intel.com (not 20.6 because there is no 82575EB on 'valied for the product list') but It failed. Error massege was 'Cannot Install drivers. No Intel(R) Adapters are present in this computer'

What's wrong? I've found 82575EB's status is not EOL on Intel ARK site. Is this my server's problem??

Any Info will be helpful to me.

Thanks,

Martin

S3420GPLX problems error beepcode 1-5-4-4

$

I've been searching on the web for a while for a solution to my problem.

I have a S3420gplx motherboard with a Xeon X3430. With it I have 16gb of ram and an official Intel chassis SC5299-E. I bought the chassis after I got this problem.

What happened. I had installed my motherboard with processor, cooling (official Intel cooler) and HP RAM (m393b5170gb0-ch9q9 ), when I got the error beep code at post 1-5-4-4 signalling, according to my search results, power control failure.

This was before I installed the chassis, after I installed the chassis I got the same beep code. What I'm wondering is if the motherboard is dead (or the CPU, PSU, etc) or if I missed something.  I'm running out of options here and I'm beginning to think the worst. Do you guys have any more solutions to this problem?

S1200SPL server board will not boot when UPS USB monitoring cable is connected

$

We just built a server based on the S1200SPL server board.  A UPS (Tripp Lite) monitoring cable is connected to one of the board's USB 2 ports.  When the server is booted, it appears to attempt to boot from the UPS over the USB cable.  The server just waits (not crashes) at the point where boot is expected.  If the USB cable is removed, the server immediately boots from the internal disk.  This is true even though newly discovered USB devices are put at the end of the USB boot order.  However, there does not appear to be a way in this BIOS to disable USB boot devices entirely.  When connected after Windows starts, the UPS USB connection operates normally. How do we get this board to boot from internal storage while the UPS USB cable is connected?  Thank you!

Can't connect to BMC S5500BC serverboard

Hi.

Suddenly received S5500BC from ebay for my ESXi home lab.

It came with two Xeon E5506, i removed them and put one E5649 into first cpu socket.

Although i put two 2Gb DDR3 ECC non Registered DIMMs into first and second memory slot.

I connect 2 NICs to my work network, in bios, in BMC settings i set to receive ip by DHCP.

After reboot i saw that ip is received, but i can't connect to BMC in Chrome, Safari or IE.

As i remember from configuration S1200BTL - without RMM i can access to web page where i can check my hardware status and other, does this board have this, or i lost my time?)

After that i update Bios, EFI, BMC to the latest version, nothing changes. I can saw server in my network, it receive packages, but i can't connect to it.

I tried to config BMC by Deployment Assistant, it saw only one (second) NIC and by configure with utility i had the same result...

Is any ideas?

RMM module isn't instaled.

Memory, CPU & PSU were perfectly working with old board.

No errors on boot.

i350 NIC on-board SDP connector

$

Working on an application using the i350 NIC which does ingress per packet timestamping on all packets with timestamp accuracy within microseconds. One timing reference source that would be used is an external GPS receiver which would provides a time accurate 1 pulse-per-second signal (PPS). I have found SW references to how to read the 1 PPS input using the SDP pins on the NIC but am unable to find the pinout of the on-board 10-pin connector which I think the SDP pins are connected. Eventually would also like to incorporate the IEEE1588 SW protocol as an alternate timing source and therefore would need a 1 PPS output to use for measurement purposes which also uses a SDP pin. Since these pins are not exposed externally through the NIC faceplate there is no information on these in the datasheet. Is there a pinout definition for the EU1 10-pin connector which provides access to the SDP pins on the i350 NIC?
