I have a brand new INTEL RS25SB008 RAID controller here with the included super cap battery capactior. I have installed everything and claims BBU is not installed or is bad. The logs show the battery being removed or not installed and now i have NO cache which negatively affects the performance of the card and all virtual disks on the card. How do i get a replacement? I have checked all the cables to the card making sure the connections are good but still nothing. I would like to get a replacement super capacitor but i dont know where to  get one. Can someone please help?

Secure Boot with S2600WTT and Adaptec RAID controller doesn't work

Hi All,

I'm trying to enable secure boot on my S2600WTT board (latest BIOS 01.01.0011) but when I enable it the system doesn't display the Adaptec RAID controller (81605ZQ) anymore and also I can't choose any of the EFI boot files on the HDDs connected to this controller since the controller seems to be completely invisible to EFI after enabling Secure Boot.
"Normal" EFI boot works fine. Installing Windows Server 2012 R2 from DVD with Secure Boot enabled also works fine, Windows can see all logical RAID disks. EFI just doesn't seem to see any of them after the following reboot that is necessary during install.
The Adaptec 81605ZQ is supposed to be Secure Boot capable according to the Adaptec website.

Now I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to Secure Boot. After several hours of research this is what I guess needs to be done: It seems that I need to add the keys for the Adaptec controller to either the "db" or "KEK" variables. It looks like to accomplish that I will need to delete the "db", "dbx", "PK" and "KEK" variables first (of course I took a backup from UEFI shell and also from Windows Power Shell before) but it doesn't let me delete these variables (I tried from Windows using latest syscfg.exe and also from EFI shell)
According to specs that seems normal since "physical presence" is required to mess with these variables so I would expect to find some option to maintain or delete these variables from System Setup. But I can't find anything there. My Dell devices let me manage the Secure Boot keys from the BIOS setup. I still haven't found out how this is done on an Intel server.

After a few hours I'm giving up for now hoping someone from this forum can help.

Thanks,
Michael

Hi everybody!

My problem is very strange. Please help any idea me.

I think so the problem is with our serverboard/motherboard Intel S1200BTL.

So the server is working and working, but sometimes it goes to not working.

The display off, the mouse off, the server is power on but it do not reply. No beep or anyone error.

But the Intel BMC is working, and I can restart the server. It is very strange.

Log of BMC and the log of Windows shows nothing. Only interrupted on the stoppage.

After restart, everything is normal. No overheat, no voltage problem.

We tried it with another power supply but it was not help.

The HDDs tempretaure about 37 Celsius. Processor and others ok. HDDs are working without errors.

I tried update all softwares. Intel BIOS is up to date, Windows Server 2012 is up to date, drivers ok. Updated the raid drivers.

The hardware:

Motherboard           Intel Beartooth Pass LC S1200BTL

CPU                     QuadCore Intel Xeon E3-1230 v2, 3566 MHz (37 x 96)

RAM                     2X Kingston 9965525-116.A00LF 8 GB DDR3-1600 ECC DDR3

Videocard              Matrox G200e (Emulex) WDDM 1.2  (32 MB)

Raid controller       DELL PERC H310 RAID

HDDs                   WDC WD20EARX-00PASB0 (1863 GB)

                            WDC WD15EARS-00Z5B1 (1397 GB)

Should VT-x Be Enabled If Not Being Used?

$

Searching the web brings up quite a few answers to this question, but many of them are contradictory to one another, and I am hoping that someone from Intel can shed some REAL light on the question:

Put simply, if I am building a physical machine (workstation or server) and do not intend to use any manner of virtualization in the environment, should the VT-x extensions be enabled in the BIOS or not?  More importantly -- explain your answer!

I understand that the extensions are needed if you will ever do a VM -- this makes sense.  But is there a cost to enabling the extensions?  Does any part of the CPU run more slowly?  Less securely?  Many posts on the general web say that it doesn't matter -- but if it really didn't matter, why would hardware/bios vendors expend time and effort to even make it an option?

No display on add-in graphics when connected to S2600CW2 board

Hi and wish you all a very healthy, happy and prosperous new year.

We've supplied Cottonwood pass [S2600CW2] (Intel® Server Board S2600CW2 Specifications) server board with Intel P4304XXMFEN2 (Intel® Server Chassis P4304XXMFEN2 Specifications) enclosure to our customer along with Nvidia Quadro K420 (Quadro GPUs for Desktop and Mac Pro Workstations|NVIDIA) graphic adapter. The processor used is single Intel Xeon E5-1620 v3 (Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-1620 v3 (10M Cache, 3.50 GHz) Specifications).

Though we get the display from the onboard VGA port, we do not get any video from the Nvidia adapter. We've tested the card on S2400SC2 board (Intel® Server Board S2400SC2 Specifications) and is working fine. We've populated the card on the PCI-e x16 slot associated with CPU1 slot.

The BIOS is updated to the latest and it shows:

Add-in Video Adapter: <Disabled> (greyed out)

Onboard Video: <Enabled> (greyed out)

Legacy VGA socket: <CPU socket 1> (greyed out)

The graphic adapter heat sink fan is also not rotating when connected and the server is powered. The OS is Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and it does not come-up in the device manager as well, even as an un-recognised device. We even tried with Nvidia GeForce 210 adapter, and the result is same.

Please provide the next set of action as a resolution to this.

Thanks and regards

Replace all drives (one-by-one) with larger disks? [RS2WC080]

$

I have the RS2WC080, configured with 8x 1TB drives in RAID 5.

I want to increase the size of the array, but have used all the slots.  To do a sort of future proofing, I want to replace all the drives with larger ones.

Will this work?

  • Mark 1TB drive Offline -> Missing -> Prepare for Removal
  • Replace with 2TB drive
  • Rebuild array
  • Repeat this for every drive until all the 1TB drives are replaced with 2TB

Once I finish replacing the last drive and rebuilding, will I be able to realize all of the new space?  How?  Will this work?

It is not lost on me that the optimal, quickest, probably right way to do this is to move all the data to some other backup and create a new array with the new disks from scratch then copy the data back.  Unfortunately that is not a viable option for my situation, and I have the time.

Please advise..

MotherBoard : Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming-7

CPU : intel Core i5 4460 .

ОС : Linux CentOS 7.2 x64 . kernel 3.10.0-327

RAID : RS2WC080

FW: 2.130.394-3028

FW Package v. : 20.12.1-0168

WebBIOS v. : 4.0-60-Rel

Problem: The firmware is not initialized when Linux is starting and OS can not see the controller.

dmesg | grep megaraid

"Could get controller info Fail from megasas_init_adapter_mfi"

The latest firmware has been downloaded from intel.

I tried to run this RAID at P45, Z68, Z77 and Z170 MotherBoards - and the controller worked normally, even with standard linux drivers (kernel 3.10.0-327).

When i run Windows 7 , i received an error message -  "Device cannot start (Code 10)"

Question 1: Which component is not compatible with the RAID-controller? Problem within the CPU (core i5) or chipset (z97) ?

Question 2: Can I install the firmware from the site Avago, for controller MegaRAID SAS 9240-8i ,  Version: 20.13.1-0240?

Intel Modular Server-Forogt Password

Just deployed another Modular Server (MFSYSV2), configured all the storage pools, hosts, VMs, changed the default password and it now seems I have forgotten the admin password. Yes, I admit it, I forgot to write it down!

Is there a white paper or another resource for changing the admin password via serial or if I reset the CMM, will all my hard work with the storage pools, hosts, and VMs etc. be lost or is the CMM completely independent of the storage controllers?

Thanks for helping me with my stupidity!

MFSYS25 and it's CMM

Hi,

I have a MFSYS25 Version 1 modular system. I have not been able to access the management card because no one knows the password. We eventually bought a new (refurbished) CMM and plugged it in. However, it pulled the same IP address and configurations as the old one. Have I just caused myself to have a paperweight? Is there a way to get into these cards?

I attempted to use this link several times. I can watch the CMM booting progress but I can not get to an EBF:

Intel® Modular Server Systems — Cannot log in to CMM

Thanks for any help you can give.
