S2600CP, problems using all 8 Blue SAS/SATA ports in SATA mode

$

I have a S2600CP board (latest firmware, 2.05.004) in a Intel P4308XXMHGC Case.

There are 6 WD 600GB VelociRaptor *SATA* drives in the two Hotswap Disk enclosures, They are connected via two MiniSAS->4 SATA cables to the 8 Blue SATA/SAS ports.

Op.Sys. I Proxmox 3.4 (Debian Wheezy), kernel 3.10

The first four drives are correctly detected and usable, but the next two drives, which are on Blue ports 5 & 6 are not seen at all. Have tried all controller modes (RSTe, ESRT2).

It was my understanding that in SATA mode all 8 ports were available

Have put in a C600 upgrade key (RKSATA8) but that made no difference. However the BIOS showed no Comtroller Modules installed, so maybe there is a problem there.

Any suggestions?

thanks - Lindsay.

No Intel server MB supported in ESXi 6.0

We have 3 x 2 year old 2600gz platforms that run ESXi 5.5.

After the 6.0 we verified if the platform is support just because this is our procedure. We weren't really expecting to find that no intel platform appears in the ESXi 6.0 compatibility matrix.

I hope this is just a delay and not the real deal.

S2600GZ Despair....

Hello, I did a rather optimistic thing and bought the above mentioned server board off ebay, thinking I might be able to get it working. It hasn't really worked out. I gave it to an IT repair company, who seem to have given up. Any help would be greatly appreciated, before I reluctantly write this off as a silly mistake.

Basically, I'm getting a fatal error when powering on the board. I've referred to the manual, and deciphered the error beep code "1-5-1-2" as meaning "VR Watchdog timer sensor assertion - VR controller DC power on sequence was not completed in time"

Due to this fatal error, I can't get any video output, or a more helpful error code to work with, so my questions is, does anyone have any idea what may cause this? Should the board power on and produce a video output without being connected to fans, heat sinks, HDs etc? I was hoping to get a sign of life before spending any more money on the other components.

Thanks

Intel modular server - recent critical events

Masters,

We have an intel modular server with two host. Yesterday our Primary power supply gone, and our secondary power supply (an automatic aggregator) not started. While the maintainers try to fix the power supply the server stop and start few times.

Today when i logged in the modular server i see the following on dashborad --> in the system health box: red X on Power supply.

power supply 1 and 2 -->No power applied or power supply failure, potential cooling problem...

power suplly 3 -->ok
ps4-fan blank -->OK

But only the power 3 was plugged in. I don't now if this problem or not. The current watt load was 457W and stay in green zone. Anyway, i plugged in another power supply, but the required action still show "Install Power Supplies"
First question: May i have to initialize or have to do something, or enough just plug the power supply on?

At time when the primary power line was gone, the following event log was appeared:

1. HDD Cooling Zone Fault
Power Supply slot 1 has a defective fan and is contributing to a HDD Cooling Zone Fault.
But Power Supply 1 was not plugged in...so i don't understand why that was logged..?

2 PS Slot #1 Fan #1 Tach: Lower Critical sensor threshold asserted
Sensor: PS Slot #1 Fan #1 Tach: The sensor reading is too low

3. PS Slot #2 Fan #1 Tach: Lower Critical sensor threshold asserted

4. PS Slot #1 Output Voltage: Lower Critical sensor threshold asserted

May i have to do something? No new events in the log. Today i clear.

Thank you !

S1200v3RPS EFI hangs RAID 4TB GPT

I have a S1200V3RPS board that will not boot EFI RAID1 4TB drives. If RAID is not set then it will boot EFI to a GPT 4TB disk. If RAID 1 is enabled then it hangs at EFI Widows boot manager. How do I fix this without having to add additional drives smaller than 2TB to run MBR disks for the boot up drives?

I have loaded the latest Bios from the Intel site. Tried loading boot parameters in EFI boot file.

Masters,

We have a modular server with two host.

Yesterday we have some problem with the power supply and we have many critical events in the log, but we have not got any alert / notification e-mail.

-  We have exchange server 2010

-- In the modular server admin --> notification --> e-mail: the test its ok.

- in the event policy, every critical events use e-mail notification too

Any idea how to test, how to check whats wrong?

Thank you

Intel 82574L locking up

$

Has anyone else experienced this problem with the "Intel 82574L" onboard network interface on Supermicro X9SCM-F-B?

Basically what's happening is that the network interface will lock up. The machine stops responding, when logging in through the dedicated IPMI or console the network interface shows 99% usage in task manager but does not have a connection to the internet. It doesn't show a red disconnect X it just say's no internet access. If we try to run diagnostics it fails. If we try to disable the network interface it takes a long time, sometimes it disables, sometimes it doesn't. The only way we have found to fix this problem is by power cycling the machine. If we try to restart the machine properly it just hangs at shutting down. However the next day or some other random time the network interface will lock up again.

We recently deployed 11 of these machines with identical specs, 9 of them have Windows Web Server 2008 R2 64-bit and 2 of them have CentOS 6x 64-bit. We've primarily seen this problem occurring on 2-3 specific machines with Windows but it has happened on several other machines less often as well. It has occurred on one of the CentOS machines 2-3 times but not recently. The machines all had Bios 1.0c when deployed but we have since updated to 1.1a which made no difference.

Machine specs:
Supermicro X9SCM-F-B Server Motherboard
Intel Xeon Quad-Core E3-1230 3.2GHz 5GT/s 1155pin 8MB CPU
Kingston KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G DDR3-1333 8GB (2x4GB) ECC CL9 Memory Kit
2 x Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX 500GB SATA3 7200rpm 32MB Hard Drive

BIOS Revision: 1.1a
Intel PROSet Version: 16.6.126.0
Driver Version: 11.11.43.0
Latest INF Drivers installed
All Windows Updates installed

We originally had a Dell Powerconnect 6248 switch but it was quite old so we replaced it with a brand new Dell Powerconnect 5548 switch with latest firmware. The problem occurred with both switches so we don't think it's that unless it has something to do with auto-negotiating or the power saving features.

Things we are trying now:

- Switched one system to use the secondary nic "Intel 82574LM", so far hasn't locked up in 3 days (good sign).

- Rolled back to the Microsoft default drivers, will have to wait and see what happens.

- Disabled Flow Control and EEE (Energy Savings) on the switch.

Is there any way to run a debug or setup network interface logging to find out whats causing this to happen?

Thanks for reading.

(I7-3610qm) if I do not start the Intel Turbo Boost technology monitor service, why still CPU core frequency automatically? But whether or not to enable this service, highest core frequency does not exceed 2.3MHz, second why?

S2600CW Server Board Bios R01.01.0009 UEFI Secure Boot Question

$

Hi folks:

I was going to upgrade my S2600CWTS board to Bios R01.01.00009 which was release a few weeks ago, but in the section marked "IMPORTANT NOTICE" point #5 says this:

5. BIOS R01.01.0009 will enable UEFI Secure Boot and include below limitations:

    - Please read "BIOS UEFI SECURE BOOT IMPACT AND MITIGATION METHOD" section in this

      BIOS release notes

    - All customer settings saved in BIOS NVRAM will be lost after new BIOS upgrade.

    - BIOS downgrade is not allowed if user has enabled BIOS secure boot. All customer

setting will be lost also if downgrade to previous BIOS release.

    - Backup BIOS region is also required to be updated to prevent recovery failure

please use release package to update BIOS.

    - There is downgrade hang risk if you don't follow above rules.

    - Further BIOS release will not suffer from these side effects as the NVRAM region

is formatted as authenticated variable storage

I need some clarification about what "enable UEFI Secure Boot" means.  I'm running ESXi 6 and don't have secure boot enabled.  Does this mean that if I apply this BIOS update that I won't be able to turn off secure boot and will have to reinstall ESXi?  Also, does it mean that I can't legacy boot from a CD or USB stick any longer?  If that's the case, then I'm stuck at the current BIOS level.

Can someone please give some details about what this means relative to how the previous Bios versions operated?

Thanks.

S3000AH won't boot after BIOS update

$

I upgraded a S3000AH motherboard from BIOS v46 to latest v54.  The update appeared to be successful and prompted me to power cycle to complete.  I did, but now the board won't boot.  No video activity and diagnostic LEDs cycle as (minus a few that cycle too fast for me to read):

A A A A  (initialize?)

R R R -  (Started dispatching an PEIM)

R R R G  (Completed dispatching an PEIM)

- - - A  (Reading configuration data from memory (SPD on DIMM))

- G R G  (Configuring memory parameters in the memory controller)

R A R -  (Entered EFI driver execution phase (DXE))

A A A A  (initialize?)

(repeats ad nauseam)

I cleared CMOS.  Same thing.  I tried BIOS recovery mode using both a bootable CD and a USB (since the BIOS files are too big to fit on a DOS floppy).  My boot CD didn't work and did same LED cycling.  The USB made it farther--LEDs cycle differently (don't have the codes), turns on a blank video screen, but then hangs on:

A - - R  (Resetting the mouse)

I have repeated several times and even left it on overnight just to ensure I was giving it long enough to flash.  Alas, in the morning, still hung on A - - R.  Seeing as how it allegedly hangs on the mouse, I have tried with no mouse, with a PS/2 mouse, with a USB mouse, and with both PS/2 and USB mice.  Still hangs.  Same with PS/2 and USB keyboards.

Any clue how to get the board bootable again?

Does C222 chipset with RSTe support GPT partitions?

I am working with supermicro board  X10SLL-F, which has a C222 chipset. I've spent all day trying to get it to recognize two 4TB drives in a RAID-1 configuration and was not successful. (http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon/C220/X10SLL-F.cfm)

I see from some other posts on the community here, that RSTe can support GPT but it depends on the chipset. Does anyone know if C222 chipset support GPT when using RSTe in raid 1. I am using the driver (DriverVer=02/12/2015,4.2.0.1136) loaded while installing windows 7.

Thanks!

Invalid DIMM population error on S2600CP server board

$

As I purchased this board secondhand, I'm not sure if this is an S2600CP2 or S2600CP4. There is a sticker that reads:  PBA  E99552-507 QSCP22002137

I have dual Xeon E5-2630L v2 CPUs, and I have 4 x 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 registered, ECC DIMMs on order.

While waiting for these DIMMs to arrive, I decided to test the board with some desktop DIMMs just to make sure that the board is in working order. My understanding is that this board will accept regular desktop DIMMs. According to the "Technical Product Specifications", this board is supposed to support UDIMMs. Unless, there's such a thing as unregistered server DIMMs, I'm assuming "UDIMMs" is the same as typical desktop DIMMs.

First, I tried to a single 4GB 1333Mhz DDR3 desktop DIMM and got the "Invalid DIMM population" on POST. My understanding is that a single DIMM configuration is supported. I tried this single DIMM in all 4 banks, and got this error each time.

Second, I tried various combinations of 4 x 8GB 1600Mhz DDR3 desktop DIMMs. I've used these DIMMs singly, in pairs, and all 4 at a time. I've tried filling both slots of 2 channels as well as single slots of 4 channels. I've tried a single DIMM in all 4 banks, observing the "farthest fill first" rule.

Another thing to note is that although the "Invalid DIMM population" error appears on the display during POST, the LED POST progress code does not indicate this. According to the specifications, this error SHOULD BE indicated by:

Lower Nibble LEDs (lit green):  #0, #2, #3

Upper Nibble LEDs (lit amber): #5, #6, #7

However, in MY CASE, the LEDs are lit as follows:

Lower Nibble LEDs (lit green): #1, #2, #3

Upper Nibble LEDs (lit amber): #5, #6, #7

I don't even see this combination in the technical specifications.

Here is a video showing the POST progress LED sequence:

Can't see Intel x710 FCoE device after ProSET installation

We recently purchased an Intel X710-DA2 Converged Network Adapter to provide both 10G network and FCoE connectivity to Cisco Nexus 5000 switches. This is installed in an Intel Server System S2600GZ server running Windows 2012 (non-R2).

The Intel drivers and ProSET were installed from the v20.2 drivers CD, however there was no option as described in the documentation to select FCoE.

Do I need to enable the boot ROM, even though we do not want to boot from SAN, to enable FCoE? If so, where do I find the BootUtil for Windows 2012?

Thanks

My old server SC5300LX+SE7520BD2 won't boot after removing a second PSU

Hello,

I have a intel server SC5300LX+SE7520BD2 with 1+1 redundant PSU (Delta electronics C46098-005).  As one of the PSU had a amber led lighting, I decide to check the part-number and I did this by, shutdown the system, remove both the power cord, remove the failed PSU, plug again the power cord on the good PSU and press the power button.

However, for my complete surprise, the server didn't boot.

Then I try to insert the other PSU (the failed one) again but the server still don't boot.

I notice there is no any led lightning on any PSU, so I am not sure could be the problem.

Any suggestions is really welcome. I am stuck on this and I don't know if I should replace the boot PSU or, the mainboard, or even the AC-026A power distribution divider (Delta Eletronics C46103-007)

Thanks

Intel SNMP sub agent/mib setup and reading of values.

Hi All,

Has anyone done up a guide on how to actually setup everything to start reading values into a network monitoring software such as prtg?

I have installed the Intel SNMP subagent on the machine and also have configured the SNMP service with the community name etc. I have imported the MIB files into ireasoning and can see values but how are you supposed to know what temperatureReading.1; or temperatureReading.2; are supposed to mean? I've attached an image to see where I am.

For example how would I get the value for the CPU temperature?

Earlier, I reported an invalid DIMM population error with my S2600CP4 server board here. Now that I have the REG ECC DIMMS on-hand, I'm having a different issue.

I'm now getting the following errors:

3 long beeps while the LEDs are lit for error code EAh "DDR3 channel training error".

5 short beeps while the LEDs are lit for error code D6h (unknown error).

It then stops while the LEDs are lit for progress code B2h "DXE Legacy Option ROM init".

S2600CP4 dual 2620 issue

Hi guys!

The board works fine with one cpu installed(e5-2620),but when i install the second one,the system fails to post and falls into a never ending reboot cycle.
Diagnostic LEDs are showing 00010101-->15h which code means that the progress stops at NB PEI module.
I've tried almost everything, removed all USB devices, all SSDs,all PCIE cards, replaced CPUs and memories, updated firmwares, updated and recovered BIOS without any success to get the second 2620 to work in CPU2 slot.
Any idea?
