P4308XXMHDR, 8 posible disk, but cable for only 4

Hello all

This is my first post. I'm stuck on this. We are building a server with a P4308XXMHDR chasis with a S2600CP2 motherboard.

Chasis come with space and 8 hot-swap hard disk carriers. Motherboard come with 8 + 6 SATA conectors. We have put a RKSAS8R5 to enable the 8 SATA ports. Ploblem come because the 8 port SATA backplane use two SFF conector - one for every four disks-, and motherbords come with standard individual SATA ports, but THERE ARE ONLY one cable included on P4308XXMHDR.

I've contacted with our disti, with intel commercial support, intel technical support, and nobody can find a reliable solution. Tech support tell me that this server must come without any SFF-to-SATA cable, so I have luck to have one. Too this cable is very diferent of SFF to SATA that come with RAID adapters (pinout is completelly inverted). This cable have this reference on it: G14989-003. I have found some on internet, but no stock.

So, my question to community: Does anyboody know if this system comes with one or two G14989-003 cables ???

pd: I have put this system in use hacking a SAS RAID adapter cable, cutting and cross all data cables, but this is not a pro solution nor can extend to a more amount of servers.

Hello.

I have five MFS5520VI Compute Module (BMC Firmware ok 1.27.1,  BMC Boot ok 0.28, BIOS ok S5500.86B.01.00.0060.092120111445)

I set the value "Reset" in the "Resume on AC Power Loss" option.

After the loss of power module does not start automatically. I have to push the button on the front panel of the module.

What to do?

Thank U.

S1200BTLRM: Status LED blinking amber

$

I just installed my second new S1200BTLRM motherboard. I am interested to find out what is the reason for blinking amber status led. No other led are on/off/blinking. I didn't have this kind of result with my first motherboard.

I have upgraded firmwares to the latest. I also run sysinfo-tool which informed the following:

   Boot Code: 02.02.00.049

ME Health Status: PSU MONITORING SERVICE ERROR

ME Health Status [Extended Information]: PROBLEM WITH PSU NO :1

BIOS error page didn't inform anything. Although I changed the psu, but the blinking didn't stop. The both PSU are conformable to ATX standard.

CentOS 6.6 Intel SRCSAS18E

I have been running an intel mobo with hardware RAID and 6 x 1TB Drives for about four years.  The server stopped booting a few weeks ago and I am trying to resurect it and if possible salvage the data. It was not even showing up in POST cycle as a controller, so I moved it to another board I had around and it shows up, but still not working correctly.    The original system was running CentOS 5.x and controller moved to new system running CENTOS 6.6

Issue:  RAID SRCSAS18E RAID 5 Volume not showing up.  Cannot do "ctrl+G" from POST stage (it pauses for about 45seconds during post).  OS driver installed as well as CLI and web tool but controller does not show up to web tool, and when I issue command to re-flash (likly it would be an upgrade as I don't recall last time I did a firmware flash on it) it does not give me very useful response.

Questions:

1) Has anyone any experiance and futher direction on how to debug this further?

2) Does anyone have this RAID controller running CentOS / RHEL 6.6?

3) The inabiltiy to do <ctrl +G> and UEFI is not good. What I do have is a note in my system change control about something like this which noted to get by it by "disabling all other controller BIOS on motherboard" .  I would like to validate if others have this issue, and or work around for this.

W2600CR Bios Issue (Fans runs @ Max)

We purchased 8 W2600CR servers around end of November 2014.

We built and config'd 5 of them then updated bios to make fans runs quite all work well.

Now over the last week we have completed the last three but this time when we updated the bios (using the same files and usb as the first five) the case & psu fans run at max.

Now we have cross referenced the bios settings between them and set bios to default on the two to no avail.

We are running on bios ver 02.01.0002 we have even tried the new 0003 with no change.

We have followed the "Server fans at full or loud" kb again no change.

We are at a lost what to try next.

Anyone have an idea what the issue is or could be any help greatly appreciated.

S1200BTLRM: ipmitool unable to establish session

Hi,

I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 and ipmitool. LAN1 is used as channel 1 and there is different IP address for OS than for BMC and default GW has been set also. Ipmitool is successful in executing "local" commands like

ipmitool lan print 1

but when I try to execute remote commands like

ipmitool -H 10.11.5.12 -I lanplus -U USER -P PASSWORD chassis power status

I get output

Error: Unable to establish IPMI v2 / RMCP+ session

Also same kind of command like

ipmitool -H 10.11.5.12 -I lan -U USER -P PASSWORD chassis power status

I get output

error: Unable to establish LAN session

Unable to get Chassis Power Status

I can't even get any ping reply from this BMC interface. What is wrong with my setup?

INTEL P4308RPLSHDR SERVER SYSTEM WITH RSBL080

I have 2 servers like this.  Issue with both is that hotspares fail on patrol reads.  I narrowed it down to the fact they go from power transition to unconfigured bad state when patrol read starts.  I have "worked around it" by configuring controller not to put hotspares in low power state.

On a side note I have another SERVER CHASSIS P4308XXMHGC with ITL S2400SC2 SERVER MB and RSBL040 that has no problem spinning up hotspares for patrol reads.

All 3 server use the same controller firmware and using the same model/size hard drives and operating systems.  My best guess is there may be an issue with the P4308RPLSHDR backplane firmware, but I see no update to it.

S2600CP P4308CMHEN Fan Noise

Halo to all,

I have an Intel Server P4308CMHEN with the S2600CP.

Board Information: Product Name : S2600CP | Serial Number: QSCP35000469 | Part/Model Number : E99552-510 | FRU File ID : FRU Ver 1.00

I recently updated the BIOS to the latest, 02.03.0003BMC6580, and the update was successful

This update package includes the following system software updates:

- System BIOS - 02.03.0003 - ME Firmware - 02.01.07.328 - BMC Firmware - 01.21.6580 - FRUSDR - 1.11

The actual readings from the BMC console now are:

BIOS ID :SE5C600.86B.02.03.0003.041920141333
BMC FW Rev :01.21.6580
Boot FW Rev :01.17
SDR Package Version :SDR Package 1.11
Mgmt Engine (ME) FW Rev :02.01.07.328

After the update the FANs are operating in full speed, ~8200RPM, and the server is extremely noisy. At the Sensor Readings of the BMC console it reports:

BMC FW Healthsensor has failed and may not be providing a valid readingWarning0x0010

I have attached the DebugLogs and the SELLOG

What I have done already:

Shutdown the server, remove both power cords for 30 seconds and the power on

Load BIOS defaults

Updated again the FRUSDR using the "FRUSDR.nsh" command and it was successful

Updated the BIOS again, successful

Please for your suggestions!

I'm trying to figure out if upgrading to an PCIe controller like RMS25PB080 would have any performance benefits when using these types of drives? It did an ATTO benchmark and it _seems_ to me that there could be some more performance from these disks. We're also going to use SSD-s in RAID1 or RAID10 configuration, will we benefit from using RMS25PB080?

S1200BTL startup error

Hey,

I have an old server with S1200BTL  with E3-1220 and 2x2 GB ram.

The server worked fine for a while, after that was discontinued. Now i'm trying to use it again, but it doesn't boot.

It powers on just fine, coolers start, but then i can hear 5 beeps, and nothing happens.

The diagnostics LEDs are lit in an OOOO OXXO pattern, which does not exist in the manual.

I've tried resetting the CMOS, but still the same.

As i said earlier, the server was fine when pulled offline few months ago.

Any idea if i could do something before RMA?

raw ipmi command to retrieve NIC 1 MAC address on S2600GZ

Hi there,

what is the right approach to retrieve the NIC 1 MAC address (for OS usage) via IPMI?

NOTE: I am assuming the system is powered off and that a DHCP server assigned an IP address to the BMC LAN channel 1.

The S2600GZ technical product specification section 6.10.3.2.3 highlights the convention used to assign MAC address so conceptually one could calculate it from the BMC LAN channel 1 MAC address (by subtracting 4) but that seems brittle so I am looking for the (raw) IPMI command to provide that info directly!?

Other vendors implemented vendor-specific IPMI commands but I can't seem to find the doc that would cover an S2600GZ board..

Thanks & cheerio, Harry.

We have a set of drives in a RAID 1 and RAID 5 configuration via the Intel RS25D8080 RAID controller. We need run SMART tests on these drives from a remote workstation. How can SMART commands and info be made available to external software from the Intel RS25D8080 RAID controller?

If it can't, what is the alternative interface to test the individual drives from our own software?

MYSYS25 switch replacement

Hell, switch in our Intel modular server mysys25 started failing. All servers lost connectivity and we have to pull switch out and put it back in everytime. We ordered new switch, but when we put it in the chasis the foloving error appears: Fault Indication: ESM 2 Fault LED On . We tried to connect to new switch via Serial port, but that doesnt work either. Any suggestions? The firmware on the blade is the latest. I assume the problem is in mismatching firmware, but how to update firmware on the switch if I cant access it? Thanks for your help.

RS3DC080 with RES3TV360 issues

Hi community,

I bought an RS3DC080 and connected both ports to a RES3TV360 Expander with Windows Server 2012 R2 on a SuperMicro Board.

Issue 1:

In Intel RAID Web Console 2 it only shows that the disks are connected trough one connector port. How can i enable Dual Linking? In Expander documentation there is mentioned that it could be 8 in and 24 out Devices / Channels.

Issue 2:

After a reboot I get "Phy is bad on enclosure" errors on console. Raid is functioning normal. How can i disable this?

Issue 3:

In controller documentation there is stated, that only 16 Devices / Drives per enclosure are supported. Why there the expander can support 24 drives?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards

Sven

MFSYS35 with Intel® Modular Server Storage Management Pack questions.

Hi,

I need to convert a couple of RAD5 LUNS to RAID 10. We have not got the Intel® Modular Server Storage Management Pack. However I believe that I can use this for 30 days in evaluation. Are there any limitations with it in evaluation.

Also does anyone know if its possible to re-size a LUN so that it is smaller?

Thanks,

Mark
