S3200SH with 3TB drives

Hello,

I have S3200SH board and want to create RAID5 array of four 3TB drives (I have also another RAID1 array, but that one works fine). I am using Intel Matrix Storage Manager as a raid controller. I have updated board bios to the current version, but in the raid configuration utility, I see the 3TB drives as 746GB drives.

I have done some research and found that drives >2TB are supported from Intel Matrix Storage Manager oprom v 10.something, but the newest board bios update installed oprom v 7.5.0. Is there any way how to update just the oprom, or any other way how to make the raid configuration above work?

Thanks

Powering on an S5520HC motherboard

I recently acquired an S5520HC motherboard with two X5650s and am struggling to power on the device, given that I do not have the front panel. Shorting pins 11 & 13 as per this schematic does nothing:
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sb/CS-028813.htm

Is there any other set of pins that must be shorted to turn this board on? Finding a front panel for such an old board in South Africa will likely be very difficult.

Intel Modular Server - Shutdown port 10G.XC

I have an MFSYS25 chassis with dual network switches in it.  I am trying to disable the interconnect port between the two switches (port 10G.XC) but I cannot get it to disable.  When I try to set the Admin Status of the port to Down on either switch, it immediately goes back to Up when I hit apply.  Saving the changes and resetting the switches has made no difference.  The same happens when I try to set port 10G.SC to be administratively down too.  I am running firmware version 6.10.100.20120307.34729.  Any help would be most appreciated.

How to upgrade all drives in a storage pool to expand size on MFSYS25?

w2600cr corrupted bios update - recovery options?

I made the mistake of using the intel deployment assistant to update my bios through a download. I let it run overnight and now the computer boots with the fans and everything running, but no video output on the onboard or dedicated GPU, and no power is going to my USB keyboard.

Is there any way I can do a recovery for it?

s5000sva, web console, can't find server, Small Business Server 2008

We have a s5000sva board and I am attempting to create a RAID array using the boards embedded controller using 4 1.8TB drives after having installed the OS to an 80 GB Drive.  I have ruled out using the RAID BIOS function as it appears non-compliant with what we are needing and have decided to attempt to create this huge RAIDED array post OS install using the web console.  However, when I install the software after running the network wizard on the server running small business 2008, it reports that it cannot find the server on the network.  I am hypothesizing that my next step will be in the direction of acquiring the right driver that will allow this software to function correctly with the platform.  Can anyone offer assurance I am headed in the right/wrong direction?  Thank you.

MATRIX RAID 5 ON S3200H REBUILD RESTARTS AT 70%

I am new to this problem. Sure hope there is help out there :-). I hope I picked the correct forum.....

Server with S3200H M/B running 5 identical SATA 1.5GIG drives in RAID 5 sliced into two volumes. One is 1TB (bootable) and the other is just over 4.4TB. The OS is Server 2008 R2 CORE and the box is a Hyper V host. The OS resides on the 1TB volume.

This RAID 5 array has worked flawlessly for 4 years. Never an issue replacing several failed drives over the years. Recently, I lost a drive on port 0. Swapped in a new identical replacement and accessed the RAID setup using CTRL-I. Selected the new drive and started the rebuild. Booted into the OS, my Hyper V clients loaded and all seemed well.  It usually takes 5 to 6 days to rebuild. I am able to check status using Intel's RAID command line utility by RDPing into the box via 2008 R2 Core.

After 30 hours, volume 1 (1TB) was rebuilt and the status changed to "NORMAL"  After about 4 days, volume 2 reached 70% of the rebuild ... and that is when the fun started. Sometime after it hit 70% the rebuild percentage changed/jumped back to 0% and we started all over again. Using the command "RAIDCFG32 /ST" I am able to see that all 5 drives are good "members" (and green) ... no drives missing (except now the original bad/missing drive no longer shows up). The second volume continues to say "updating" and volume 1 "normal". I rebooted the box, checked the RAID array using CTRL-I and all looks like it should... except that volume 2 continues to rebuild/update. This has happened twice now... and we are into the 3rd "restart" back to 0%. This is like the movie Groundhog Day!

I find it very odd that volume 1 remains normal, while the rebuild of Volume 2 keeps recycling. Makes me think this is not a hardware issue. Or, do I pull the new drive I put in on port 0, replace it again and see what happens????

The Driver version is 8.6.2.1014, OROM version is 7.5.0.1017 and the app version is 8.9.0.1023.

It would be extremely difficult for me to copy everything off and just start over with a new array (one of the Hyper V clients is the PDC and the other is a file share).

I am hoping there is some underlying issue that will be obvious to folks with RAID experience. PLEASE.....:-)

Any thoughts on how to get my volume back to "normal" would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Charlie

After trying all the steps for the Cannot Log in to CMM (cs-029107) and encountering the same issue, what is the next step? Would it be the Emergency CMM Firmware Recovery?

S1200V3RPL fan speed control

$

Hi everybody,

i have installed the board in a Chenbro 2U rackmount chassis. Firmware was updated with S1200RPL_S1200RPO_S1200RPM_SFUP_BIOS02010004_BMC111_FRUSDR106.zip. During the updates I answered the SDR related questions: yes I have SysFan 1 - 4, Yes I have a CPU fan, and chassis intrusion switch and NMI button. Remaining problem: while the integrated BMC web console shows the highest temperature at 35°C, fans are at 4500 rpm. Also, there is no change in fan speed when I open the chassis (trip chassis intrusion). Fans appear to be at 100% all the time. This is an old and often discussed problem. When the update utilities detect an "Other Chassis", they program fans for safe cooling.

The problem can probably been solved by adjusting sensor / fan settings e.g. in the S1200RP.SDR file. BUT: I have not been able to get reliable first hand info about these settings. All I found were pieces of info from the forums, mostly regarding the S5XXX series of mainboards.

I read http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sb/g84364004_s1200v3rp_tps_r1_3.pdf but chapter 6.10 and appendix B aren't of much help. (BTW: the acoustic management part in BIOS offers only an "auto" setting, I cannot choose CLTT or OLTT.)

Is there a documentation of the SDR on S1200RP boards available? Maybe even a hands-on guide ("change this and achieve that")?

Thanks for your insight.

Dirk

I'm just curious how the data storing works for JBOD (2 drives) compare with a Raid 0 (2 drives). Will JBOD utilizes 1st the 1st drive till it's full before it moves to the 2nd drive?

S1200V3RPM can't enter setup

Hi,

I'm setting up the S1200V3RPM with Xeon v3 E3.

When the machine boots, it shows the fancy Intel Server Board logos, but hitting <F2> to enter Setup doesn't work.

If I power the machine with the keyboard cable disconnected, it will boot and run the Ubuntu LiveCD without a problem.

Please advise how to enter setup.
