Sever fan speed too high

We have a server that has a S1200BTL motherboard in a R1304BTLFANR chassis. We replaced the motherboard with a new S1200BTL motherboard with the same part number as the old motherboard(DA0S09MB6C0). We got it booting into Windows. The fans are running at max speed and all of the forum posts we have found say to update the BIOS and update the FRU/SDR. So we downloaded the firmware, put it on a USB stick, booted to the EFI shell and ran the commands below. We get prompted for serial numbers of the chassis and motherboard which we enter but it doesn't slow down the fan speeds. In the forum (link is below) a user stated he only entered the part number and serial for his motherboard and didn't enter anything for the chassis. We tried that but no luck. We also tried entering the serials/part numbers for both the chassis and motherboard but no luck. When we run the commands below is has the chassis  R1304BTLFAN listed as an option and you can also select other chassis. Is R1304BTLFAN the same chassis as R1304BTLFANR (has an R at the end)? The sticker on our chassis has R1304BTLFANR with the R. Can we leave out certain numbers and have it still slow down the fan speed? We have been trying different combinations with no luck. We verified the serials/part numbers are correct. We also flashed the BIOS. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong. I'm followed tons of articles with no luck. Some of the stuff I followed is below.

Hello all,

Just set up new system for R1208WFTYS and R2224WFTZS after upgrade BIOS version (S2600WF_EFI_BIOSR0014_ME04.00.04.340.0_BMC1.60.56383bef_FRUSDR1.60) and restart system,  after that System fan runs too fast and very loud.

Both server system have same motherboard (S2600WFT).

Does any one get the same issue? Please help.

Sincerely,

Brian

Is RAID controller RS3DC040 compatible with S1200SPSR and FUP4X35HSDK (G15583-303)

I have been asked to make the system. Customer purchased a P4304XXSHCN chassis with SP1200SPSR board and FUP4X35HSDK.

I can see the drives when the backplane is connected directly to the mainboard using SATA cables.

When I install the RS3DC040 card and connect it to the backplane it cannot detect the drive enclosure or the drives.

I can see in the S1200SPSR compatibility list the RAID card is listed, but cannot find if the backplane (G15583-303) is compatible.

All help appreciated.

S2600WT - No Usable Memory Error (0xE8) - BIOS ROM Flash

Hello,

I have an Intel server assembled by EMC using Intel S2600WT Server Board that doesn't detect memory modules, exactly just tested with 2 different Kingston modules.

MB: S2600WT

CPU1: Xeon E5-2620v4

Memory tested:

- Kingston 16GB PC4-2400 CL17 RDIMM (KSM24RD8/16HAI)

- Kingston 16GB PC4-2133 CL15 RDIMM (KVR21R15D4/16)

The memories should work as they match the requirements... but...

The system doesn't boot: does 3 beeps and the LED's shows error code E8 (No Usable Memory Error)

What could be the problem? I know this RAM modules are fine.

Since the system does not boot I can't update the BIOS using EFI shell as it could be a BIOS problem, i located the BIOS flash chip and was wondering where i can find the actual BIOS binary, the releases only contains a cap file (Size: 8 781 904) perhaps the 16MB is for BIOS + Recovery?

The Winbond chip had an sticker with: 0014 (Perhaps it meant that BIOS version is 1.01.0014)

The release notes (Download Intel® Server Board S2600WT BIOS and Firmware Update for EFI) reads:

"B. Use flash programmer to burn the new BIOS ROM image (16MB) into the flash chip." but no more information about the procedure.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Intel community, Can you sogest any idea how can I connect (KVM/VNC) to RMM on my server from mac os operating system.

I used to use Java Web start application, but not I can't use it now:

1) Java 8 is deprecated

2) Oracle removed web start feature from Java 11 (current).

Unfortunately MeshCommander is not working (timeout error).

Hi,

I've got a few h2224xxlr2 chassis, but am missing the FRU's for the PSU's on 2 of them.

Upgraded several times, but on all nodes in the chassis the same behaviour is visible :

from the bmc->configuration->sdr configuration :

Hello!

We have another server with this strange issue.

Server started to give RAID card overheating errors. But in reality it is not true.

We changed RAID card to a new one - still the same problem.

Motherboard is S2600CW2.

RAID controller logs attached. and RAID controller FW is the latest available.

How to fix it?

P.S::

We had familiar problem with S2600WT board and problem started in the same way but then another problem appeared with battery controller.

RS3DC040 RAID controller started to beep with battery module

How to set up new RPM range for CPU FANs?

$

Recently, I replaced CPU fans on my server machine

The system  became much more silent.

However under load system do not increase RPM and do not reduce when system is idle.

I benchmark my system with CPU-Z

When CPU reached the temperature 77C the CPU load drops instead of increasaing RPM

Meanwhile, at CPU temperature 35C and below the FAN RPMs still remains the same

I tried to change FAN profile in BIOS - it didn't help. RPM remains the same.

The question is how to regulate RPM efficiently?

Is there some tool or setting to change RPM range and CPU-FAN-RPM(from-CPU-temperature) dependency

Hi all,

i would like to upgrade a server, but does this processor (e3-1225-v6) supported on S1200SPSR ?

i see in the compability, that the processor only work on S1200SPLR, but in S1200SPSR it said support for E3-1200-v6 family

so i want to make sure before i buy the processor, does this both combination will work?

thankyou

Which of SDRs are installed by default?

$

Latest BIOS update on my S2600CP2 board made PSU FAN run at max speed.
As I already know it is the signal of some hardware fault.

Further investigation gave me the result, that HW failure happened at SDR update. However I don't know which records exactly are faulty.

I know, that there are 2 options of SDR saving to the board from EFI shell.

1. frusdr /sdr s2600cp.sdr (With this option only 60 records are saved to the board) -  PSU FAN is quiet

2. frusdr /cfg master.cfg (With this option 217 records are saved) - PSU FAN is loud

Looking at the  master.cfg file I found, that frusdr utility in both cases read s2600cp file and saves not all records to the board

Only the records which have corresponding tags (_SDR_TAG "NAME" ) in .sdr file

Selected tag names list is defined (or built) by master.cfg file.

SDR tags set is set according to master.cfg script with SET and CLEAR instructions.

By the menus and autodetection comands tags set is constructed before SDR records saved to the board.

If I save SDR with frusdr /sdr s2600cp command the 60 saved records correspond to come predefined tag list.

Which is this tag list ?

Weird functionality of RS2WC040 RAID board

$

Salutations!

My name is Jan and I have tampered with small servers for a few years, configuring small Intel, DELL, HP servers.

This particular one is an old server, Intel based, it has RS2WC040 RAID board with 3 70Gb SAS SCSI HDDs Seagate 15.5K rpm in RAID5. On this RAID5 there is a Windows Server 2003 installed.

In the Ctrl+G menu I see the Virtual Drive but it's offline with HDD0 not present/recognised and HDD2 Failed. The only HDD in the green is HDD1 as presented in photo.

I checked and HDD0 is spinning, I ejected it and mounted in bay 4 checking cabling and although it is powered it does not get recognised.

From my understanding having a RAID5 with 2 drives failed results in total LOSS... yet I would like to give it a shot to try and recover data but I am willing to wait for proper instructions is any, before attempting other tries.

Thank you in advance, Jan.20181124_181954.jpg

P.S.: is there a professional recovery service to recover data from these drives and actually get the setup in a working order to have data saved ?
