S2600WF0 SysCfg : set Fan PWM Offset

$

Hello,

we've got a couple of hundreds of Intel S2600WF0 servers. BIOS/ME/BMC/FRUSDR are all the latest:

BIOS Version Information:

-------------------------

   Primary BIOS Version:... SE5C620.86B.00.01.0014.070920180847

   Secondary BIOS Version:. SE5C620.86B.00.01.0014.070920180847

   BIOS Boot Region:....... Primary Boot

BMC Firmware Version:

---------------------

   Op Code:........... 1.60.56383BEF

ME Firmware Version:.. 04.00.04.340

SDR Version:.......... SDR Package 1.60

Baseboard Information:

----------------------

   Base Board ID:..... S2600WF0

Asset Tag Name:.... Base Board Asset Tag

System Information:

----------------------

   Manufacturer Name:. Intel Corporation

   Product Name:...... S2600WF0

   Version Number:.... ..

Chassis Information:

----------------------

   Manufacturer Name:. ...............................

   Chassis Type:...... Rack Mount Chassis

   Asset Tag Name:.... ....................

Also have the latest SysCfg: System Configuration Utility Version 14.1 Build 21

OS: Debian 9 'Stretch' 64bit

We'd like to be able to change the Fan PWM Offset using the SysCfg utility, but it's not working:

$ sudo /usr/bin/syscfg/syscfg /bcs "" "Fan PWM Offset" 100

BIOS Variable 'Fan PWM Offset' not found

However, the fan profile can be changed:

$ sudo /usr/bin/syscfg/syscfg /bcs "" "Set fan profile" 1

Successfully Completed

If I save all the settings with sudo /usr/bin/syscfg/syscfg /s /f /b, then the resulting syscfg.INI file doesn't have anything about Fan PWM Offset, it only has the Set Fan Profile in the System Acoustic and Performance Configuration group:

[BIOS::Advanced::USB Configuration]

Device Reset Timeout=20 seconds                    ;Options: 10 seconds=00: 20 seconds=01: 30 seconds=02: 40 seconds=03

[BIOS::Advanced::System Acoustic and Performance Configuration]

Set Fan Profile=Performance                        ;Options: Performance=01: Acoustic=02

[BIOS::Security]

Front Panel Lockout=Disabled                       ;Options: Disabled=00: Enabled=01

Tried to insert Fan PWM Offset=100 into the [BIOS::Advanced::System Acoustic and Performance Configuration] group and the restore the syscfg.INI file with the restore option of syscfg. The utility said the restore was successful, but the Fan PWM Offset change didn't effect, the BIOS showed the old value (0). We'd like to avoid manually changing this on hundreds of servers obviously.

Also tried to downgrade BIOS/BMC to the previous version. With the old BIOS/BMC syscfg was able read the Fan PWM Offset value (i.e. sudo /usr/bin/syscfg/syscfg /d biossettings "Fan PWM Offset" was working), but unable to write it.
According to the release notes of latest BIOS the Fan PWM Offset should work with SysCfg: https://downloadmirror.intel.com/28252/eng/Release%20Notes.txt

See: HSD-ES:1504762466, BIOS Change for #CCB 2083[Syscfg tool]Add option to configure fan pwm offset in syscfg

How to change the fan pwm offset? Please help!

Hello all,

Just set up new system for R1208WFTYS and R2224WFTZS after upgrade BIOS version (S2600WF_EFI_BIOSR0014_ME04.00.04.340.0_BMC1.60.56383bef_FRUSDR1.60) and restart system,  after that System fan runs too fast and very loud.

Both server system have same motherboard (S2600WFT).

Does any one get the same issue? Please help.

Intel RAID (RMS3CC080), how to "Online RAID Expansion", cant find it in BIOS or RWC3

Hi

We have a S1200SPOR with RMS3CC080, the below document on page 6 (real PDF page 16) says this controller (and all others that are 12Gb) will:

"Online capacity expansion to add space to an existing drive or a new drive"

"Online RAID level migration"

https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/server-products/raid-products/12G_RAID_Controllers_UG.pdf

Ive completed both of the above before with PROMISE controllers and LSI / AVAGO, however i can find anyway in the BIOS or with RWC3 (RAID Web Console 3) to do this, when i select the Virtual Drive there are no options to expand or change the RAID level.

So how is this done?

S2600GL CATERR Debugging

An S2600GL motherboard  in my possession died. I'm at a loss as to what went wrong. I understand that the support period is probably expired, not sure about my support options but i figured i'd reach out.

It appears none of the major rails have any issues, but I just get no CPU vcore (it's not shorted, i checked  =P), rest of the rails come up for about 0.6-0.9 seconds, it blips the CATERR LED twice, power cycles, then does it again.

Not sure how to continue without reversing the board and reading the C602 and relevant CPU datasheet. I thought it might be fun trying to go further, I figured it might be worthwhile gaining familiarity on a hardware/electrical level with intel server boards.

I enjoyed the level of documentation in the technical product specification, not sure whether there's any further board level information available. I'm curious as to why J4E2 is populated on both boards i have but does not appear to be mentioned anywhere?

I've used another board and verified the RAM, CPU's and PSU's are fine. BMC boots on the faulty board if that helps.

At a glance it appears the S2600WFQ, S2600WFT, S2600WF0 and S2600WT have the same/similar mechanical specifications? I'd like to confirm that's an upgrade path if boards keep dying?

Cheers.

how to reset FRU/SDR firmware back to factory default

$

I have a s2600cwt mother board. I download the latest bios, bmc and FRU/SDR firmware package, extract them to root directory of my usb disk. boot from there, and the update process started sucessfully. The bios, bmc part finished successfully, when it goes to fru/sdr part, I select option 3, update both fru and sdr.

Since I'm using a third party chassis, so I select not update the chassis part in FRU update, when it goes to sdr, it finally reported, sdr auto update failed, do you want to go back to legacy mode. So I chose the y, and answered the questions.

other chassis, sys fan 1, 2 connect, 3,4,5,6 not, cpu fan 1 connect, 2 not. rear fan connect. And finished successfully.

then I powered off the machine, powered back on. then I got an warning msg, says, cpu fan 1's speed is 0rpm. which I found the fan is actually running pretty well.

My question is how can I fix this problem or flash the fru/sdr back to factory default.

I've tried, bios default jump way resetting the bios, no luck.

please help to fix.

thanks,

Nathan

Maybe too short auto learn period for AXXRMFBU7

$

Hello!

I've got Intel RSP3TD160F RAID Controller with AXXRMFBU7 MFBU. Raid Web Console 3 (and storcli) shows that auto learn is "transparent" with period = 1 DAY.

We have previous generation Intel RAID controller RS25AB080 with SuperCap2 module - it has auto learn period = 28 days which is on par with accumulator based BBUs.

Is 1-DAY auto learn period of AXXRMFBU7 normal? Is it so frequent by design or due to a firmware bug?

S2600CW switches off abruptly

My S2600CW2R system has been running without fault for over 2 years.  Suddenly, it started switching off abruptly, after perhaps 15 minutes of powering on.  This has happened even when the OS has not booted, while I am idling in the firmware setup screen, for example, so I doubt it is an OS or software issue.

I occasionally get a boot time error message 8198: OS boot watchdog timer failure

I have extracted the EFI error log, but am not sure how to interpret it.

Should I attach the EFI log to this post?

Can you suggest next steps?

I am running

  • Dual Xeon DP Broadwell-EP E5-2699 v4
  • Cottonwood Pass Server Board Intel DBS2600CW2R
  • 4U Server Rack or Pedestal Intel P4304XXMUXX
  • Windows 10
  • 512 GB RAM
  • RAID:
    • One Umbrella Canyon
    • One Dark Canyon
  • NIC: Twinville X540T2G1P5
  • All firmware for the RAID Cards and system, including the HSBP, are up to date
  • NVIDIA display adapter was swapped out for a different card.

Hi Support,

We are using intel server board S2600WT with the BMC configuration.

In the BMC setup we can see that there is possibility to send some SNMP traps to external server.

Can we install any SNMP manager and receive those traps properly ? Do you have any MIB database for the OID's that can be send from BMC ?

Br,

How to set up new RPM range for CPU FANs?

$

Recently, I replaced CPU fans on my server machine

The system  became much more silent.

However under load system do not increase RPM and do not reduce when system is idle.

I benchmark my system with CPU-Z

When CPU reached the temperature 77C the CPU load drops instead of increasaing RPM

Meanwhile, at CPU temperature 35C and below the FAN RPMs still remains the same

I tried to change FAN profile in BIOS - it didn't help. RPM remains the same.

The question is how to regulate RPM efficiently?

Is there some tool or setting to change RPM range and CPU-FAN-RPM(from-CPU-temperature) dependency

I have P4308CP4MHGC chassis with S2600CP2 Distil 5 motherboard
