Intel 1200 BTL beep tones

$

I have an Intel 1200BTL motherboard with Xeon E3-1200v2 processor which sadly started beeping a few hours ago during boot. It beeps shortly six times and then remains silent. I'm not sure though if the beeps come from the BIOS or BMC. I guess it should be the BMC since in this case the beep sequence is supposed to happen only one time whereas the BIOS beep sequence should repeat itself. Also iirc from some earlier failures the BIOS sequence has a higher pitched noise compared to the current sequence.

The manual was not really helpful and I also could not find much for six beep tones on the web. For the AMI BIOS it would mean some A20 gate failure which is not really helpful.https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/motherboards/server/sb/g13326007_s1200bt_tps_r2_4.pdfBut as said, I don't even know if it is the BIOS. I also don't know if the error is related to the mainboard or maybe to the processor. I already changed the RAM so I guess I can exclude that. Any help appreciated.

Why does BIOS 14 on a S2600WFT cause NVMe PCIe drives on CPU0 to not show up?

$

Issue: Starting from production BIOS SE5C620.86B.00.01.0014.070920180847, when VROC Wolfpass x16 4-port retimer is connected to Riser 1, PCIe slot 1 (CPU0), the NVMe drives don’t show up in BIOS (UEFI Option ROM Control), Windows or Linux OS.

Reproducibility:  100%

Board:  Silver WolfPass system S2600WFT

BIOS settings: Default settings

Processors: verified on both Xeon Gold and Xeon Platinum Purley Skylake processors

Steps to reproduce:

1. Connect VROC Wolfpass x16 4-port retimer to Riser 1, PCIe slot 1 (CPU0).

2. Connect Oculink to Oculink cables from retimer to Oculink connections on backplane.

3. Insert any Intel NVMe SSDs with U.2 form factor to drive slots where Oculink cables are connected to.

4. Notice with BIOS SE5C620.86B.00.01.0013.030920180427, the drives show up in UEFI Option ROM Control in BIOS.

5. Download production BIOS SE5C620.86B.00.01.0014.070920180847 from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28001/?product=89015

6. Insert USB that contains above BMC/BIOS/ME/FD/FRU/SDR

7. Boot to BIOS and press F9 to load the defaults, then save and reboot

8. Boot to EFI Shell

9. Update BMC

10. Reboot and boot back into BIOS and notice NVMe drives still show up in UEFI Option ROM Control in BIOS.

11. Boot to EFI Shell

12. Update BIOS

13. Reboot and boot back into BIOS and notice NVMe drives no longer show up in UEFI Option ROM Control in BIOS.

Workarounds:

1. Downgrade to BIOS SE5C620.86B.00.01.0013.030920180427 and keep retimer connected to Riser 1, PCIe slot 1

or

2. Keep BIOS SE5C620.86B.00.01.0014.070920180847, but move retimer from Riser 1, PCIe slot 1 to Riser 2, PCIe slot 1 (CPU1)

RS3DC040 RAID controller started to beep with battery module

Dear support,

We have one server S2600WT and this RS3DC040 RAID controller with battery.

All worked fine over a year, but at some day it started to give an overheating error.

But temperatures are Ok and it is 16C degrees in server room.

We upgraded all firmwares, that were possible to upgrade - that helped for few days.

Then we changed a RAID controller to a brand new one - didn't help.

When we unplugged battery - didn't help

We unplugged battery controller from RAID card - that helped and server stopped beepeing.

We changed this battery module to a new one - didn't help.

There is no errors in RAID console, but just beeping.

How can we solve this issue?

regards,

Sergei.

Random fan spin-up on R1304SPOSHBNR, take 2

Continuing from my earlier post at Random fan spin-up on R1304SPOSHBNR

It has been a while, but I now have an additional unit, this time with Intel certified memory, that is experiencing the same symptoms. Namely, at random intervals, ranging from 15 minutes to a few hours, the fans will spin up to full speed for a few seconds before returning to normal speed. I narrowed the cause down to the P1 Therm Margin sensor, which will occasionally be unreadable for a moment. See the attached video file to see this in action.

These servers are all running CentOS Linux.

Intel RAID Web Console 3 - how do we add servers to the GATEWAY server

$

Hi, downloaded RAID Web Console 3 from here Download Intel® RAID Web Console 3 for Windows*

- Install the GATEWAY server on a remote machine, can log in ok.

- Installed the RAID driver version (SAS v6.713.05.00 (Trimode wont load, even though its listed there doesnt appear to be drivers in the package for this card)) for the RMS3CC090 on a S1200SPOR server running Windows 10 Pro

- Installed the DIRECT AGENT service for RAID Web Console 3 on the above server.

Logging in to the GATEWAY server, then pressing "Re-discover servers", this remote Windows 10 S1200SPOR with the RMS3CC080 never shows up.

We have disabled the firewall on the Windows 10 system

We have disabled the firewall on the gateway server

Is there no way of adding servers to the gateway server?

All documentation for Intel RAID Web Console 3 says the RMS3CC080 is fully supported...

Many Thanks

sub-NUMA activation in R1208WFTYS is buggy

$

I have a 2-socket R1208WFTYS system with the latest BIOS (00.01.0014) and it seems that there is a bug/inconsistency in regards to sub-NUMA activation in BIOS.

If I set "sub_NUMA Cluster" to "Enabled" and leave "IMC Interleaving" to "Auto", which suggests that BIOS will use the most appropriate settings (which has to be "1-way interleave"), then sub-NUMA is not activated - I see only two NUMA nodes (one per socket), whereas if I set "IMC Interleaving" to "1-way" explicitly, everything works as expected - I see 4 numa nodes (two for each socket).

So, since "IMC Interleaving" setting is tighly coupled to "sub_NUMA Cluster", "IMC Interleaving" should be removed altogether or at least "Auto" mode of it must be coordinated with "sub-NUMA" settings.

Hi,

I've been trying to get a KNL on the HNS7200AP compute module to post, but it seems to be stuck at post code 0x19: SB PEIM, and occasionally resets itself and ges stuck again. Are there any suggestions on how to debug this issue?

All help is appreciated.

How can I boot by usb disk using S1200SPS board

I want my motherboard SP1200SP boot from usb disk.

So I had change the BIOS-

-> advanced

--> USB configuration

--> Mass storage device

6000 : from auto to "Harddisk"

Then I can see my USB disk in the list of Boot maintenance Manager.

But Strangely, it still cannot boot from usbdisk.

Is there anything I had made wrong setting?

Intel XHCI controller with SR-IOV support (XHCI-IOV)

Hello,

I'd like to use SR-IOV for the virtualization of an XHCI host controller to passthrough to multiple VMs. Software USB passthrough is not an option in this setup, which is why I'm looking into SR-IOV.

According to the XHCI specification document (I accessed it via https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/technical-specifications/extensible-host-controler-interfac… ) in Section 8 "Virtualization", there should be a possibility to use SR-IOV for XHCI controllers.

I tried on a system with Intel C610 server chipset, with SR-IOV enabled (tested the SR-IOV support and it is working with an I710 network card), to use it with the XHCI controller on the Chipset, but that one doesn't show the PCI express capability for SR-IOV.

I'm wondering if there is a chipset or external XHCI controller on which SR-IOV is actually usable? Or does Linux just not show the capability although the hardware is capable? Is there support for it in the Linux drivers (it doesn't seem so at a first glance on the code)? What is the plan on proceeding with XHCI IO Virtualization in the future?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Best Regards
Felix

Can I use the riser slot 2 in a S2600TP board for any PCIe card?

I have a server with an S2600TP board and I have been testing trying to use the riser 2 slot for an additional PCIe card. I have tried using the riser from the AXXKPTPMIOM PCI Express rIOM kit, but if I connect any card that is PCI x16 the system will not power up (LED lights in the front and back turn amber and it beeps). If I put in just the empty carrier board (x8), the server boots fine. I have updated the BIOS to the latest version. Any suggestions?

Why does BIOS 14 on a S2600WFT cause NVMe PCIe drives on CPU0 to not show up?

Good afternoon !

At me a similar problem which here was discussed.I did not find the answer to the question and therefore I repeat:

Remote Management Module key: Installed
Device (BMC) Available: Yes
BMC FW Build Time: 2018-06-07 11:48:53
BIOS ID: SE5C610.86B.01.01.0027.071020182329
BMC FW Rev: 1.53.11210
Boot FW Rev: 1.07
SDR Package Version: SDR Package 1.17
Mgmt Engine (ME) FW Rev: 03.01.03.050
Baseboard Serial Number: BQTP61800321

Sensors:

VRD Hot All deasserted OK 0x0000
DIMM Thrm Mrgn 1 Normal OK -48 degrees C
DIMM Thrm Mrgn 2 Normal Unknown Not Available
DIMM Thrm Mrgn 3 Normal OK -51 degrees C
DIMM Thrm Mrgn 4 Normal Unknown Not Available
Agg Therm Mgn 1 Normal OK -7 degrees C

Constantly, approximately every 5 minutes in the vmware sphere there is a message about the temperature on the DIMM.

help please get rid of it.

R2208WFTZS POST failure not documented in TPS?

The TPS for the S2600WF server board and the R2000WF series servers offer, in Appendix B (pages 120 and 125, respectively), a diagnostic LED decoder., as shown below.

I have a customer who reports POST fails, with a "32" on the video display, and
Amber : ON ONONoff Green: ON ONONoff seen on the rear diagnostic LEDs.

The POST progress code example tables (same pages) indicates that's a error hex code EE (or binary 1110 1110).

However, in the pages which follow, there is no error code EE(or binary 1110 1110)described in either TPS.

New build with E1230 v5 CPU, 2 x DDR4-233 ECC UDIMM, when powered up the led on the front and on the system board is green, I get 3 beeps and the fans start speeding up to a very high speed but no output to video. I have replaced the RAM in every slot arrangement possible. Tested  the RAM on a different board both sticks were good. Put the RAM from the other system on the server board with the same results. What is the next step? Do I send the board back?

Intel Server board S2600CW2SR compatibility

Hi Intel Support Team,

Good day,

I have some questions regards with Intel Server board S2600CW2SR.

Basic installation was included for Ubuntu 16.04 as per checking to this URL:https://www.intel.sg/content/www/xa/en/support/articles/000006988/server-products/server-boards.html

May I know if installation of Chipset and onboard drivers are included and not just installing Ubuntu 16.04?

If yes, may we have the link and procedure on how to install the drivers for Intel Server board S2600CW2SR? Please advice us.

Hoping for quick response.
