S1200KPR VT-d

I bought the S1200KPR and Xeon E3-1245v2 for a super-small ESXi server.  Both the Xeon and the C206 chipset support VT-d, but now I've read that maybe the motherboard BIOS does not support VT-d.  THe only definitive articles I see on this topic are for the S1200KP and not the KPR.

Can anyone confirm if S1200KPR support VT-d?

why ssh #:cat /proc/cpuinfo     shows -  model name: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPUX3220  @ 2.40GHz, but bellow I get cpuMhz 1600.00 ?

I opened the cpu from mobo S3200sh and it is X3220 quad core 8mb cache , the same ssh tells me cache 4mb.

S5000XVN Memory questions & Memory speed Math help

I'm hardware intermediate, please keep the language simple. This is a workstation for high res photos (sometimes over 10gb) and video. It is currently not connected to the net because every time windows updates my wireless goes out. That's for a different post. First is there a good free program I can benchmark the memory and test reliability? At least a place in server 2012 to see ram clockspeed?

S5000XVN

dual quad core Xeon E5440 @ 2.83ghz not hyper threaded (should it be? Don't know what this does)

4x4gb dual channel fb-ddr2 PC2-5300 ECC DIMM QUAD RANK 667mhz

4x1gb ????? pc23-5300F 555-12-a1 not sure how to read that if it is 555mhz?

Windows Server 2012 Datacenter

First, I can't find anything in windows showing clock speed on the RAM so I used speccy and it is reading 332.5mhz. I started today with 8x1gb then removed the bottom 4 on the board and replaced with 4x4 dual channel fb-ddr2 PC2-5300 ECC DIMM QUAD RANK 667mhz. Speccy continues reading 332.5mhz. I removed the final 4x1 leaving on the new 4x4 blocked together in the bottom half and the top half empty.

I called the place I got the sticks from and they say being DDR they think it is reading actual clockspeed before adding the second DDR stream which doubles it so the 332.5 is technically correct and everything is fine. He says this board will downclock 800mhz and not even bother to boot if it really were 333.

I asked about the slot colors. He said without knowing all the specifics of the board, in general I should fill all of one color first then the other which would sit on the motherboard 4 1 4 1 4 1 4 1 to achieve . Someone replied on a post on here a long time ago to put Blues first, then blacks. Server Board S5000XVN/XSL. I don't understand why. To me, If they only need to be paired to run dual channel, a block of 4x4 are all matching blues to blacks anyway and it is moot. I also ran Belarc advisor and it shows a1 a2 b1 b2 occupied, c1 c2 d1 d2 empty, doesn't that prove it? Should I REALLY pull the ram out and go 4 1 4 1 4 1 4 1? The guy in that other post even made it sound like it would be faster if I left the 4x1gb out completely.

I was reading that SO-DIMMs are more or less equal in power and voltage rating to DIMMs, and as memory technology moves forward and despite their smaller size, SO-DIMM technology allows for performance speeds as high as the those of the larger DIMMs[clarification needed] (clock speeds such as 400 MHz PC-3200, for example, and CAS latency such as 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0) and capacity (512MB, 1GB, etc.).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SO-DIMM

The primary benefit of DDR3 SDRAM over its immediate predecessor, DDR2 SDRAM, is its ability to transfer data at twice the rate (eight times the speed of its internal memory arrays), enabling higher bandwidth or peak data rates. With two transfers per cycle of a quadrupled clock signal, a 64-bit wide DDR3 module may achieve a transfer rate of up to 64 times the memory clock speed megahertz (MHz) in megabytes per second (MB/s). With data being transferred 64 bits at a time per memory module, DDR3 SDRAM gives a transfer rate of (memory clock rate) × 4 (for bus clock multiplier) × 2 (for data rate) × 64 (number of bits transferred) / 8 (number of bits/byte). Thus with a memory clock frequency of 100 MHz, DDR3 SDRAM gives a maximum transfer rate of 6400 MB/s. In addition, the DDR3 standard permits DRAM chip capacities of up to 8 Gbit.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAM

So in raw transfer speeds between RAM & CPU what did I do today? What is the before (8x1) and after speed (both 4x4DC 667 alone & 4x4+4x1)? What about strictly 32gb of the new?

Thanks again, Chris

RS25DB080 "unexpected sense" errors on new SSDs

$

Hi!

I have been using this controller in the same system for ~3 years now with 4xIntel SSD320 160GB SSDs.

Now I added 4xSanDisk Extreme II SSDs and am having a lot of troubles.

I always get a lot of "unexpected Sense power on/reset" or "unexpected Sense no additional information" errors when doing heavy IO (e.g. AS-SSD Benchmark).

I swapped SFF cables between port 1 and 2, I replaced power cables, etc.. I also tried limiting link speed to 3Gbps to no avail.

I tried RAID0, RAID5 and RAID10, it makes no difference. I tried default volume options and the ones I want, it makes no difference.

It always happens on Port 4 and/or 6 though. So I swapped the SSDs 4/6 with 5/7 and it makes no difference (problems still on 4/6, so the new SSDs are not defective).

The strangest thing about the problem is the following:

If I hotremove and hotplug the SSDs while in Windows and only then create the RAID volume it will work perfectly (at least 30min heavy IO) until next reboot. Then it will sense fail and drop drives during the first seconds of heavy IO or even have them during boot (I can see those in the RAID console log).

That really must mean it's something with the controller IMHO.

I have attached some excerpts below.

Firmware/Driver is latest:

23.12.0-0013 (3.240.25-2382)/6.600.23.00

Please help!

Thanks,

Regards

JBOD2312S2SP Power Supply Issue?

I have a JBOD2312S2SP Intel Raid Enclosure (Intel® Storage Systems JBOD Family) at my house and woke up to screaming fan noises.  Warning light was blinking and the console showed this:

Note I only have one power supply so if the cable was removed not sure how it was still running.  Right after that warning received the below messages copied from the logs so the top one is the latest:

Last message until 6 minutes later I powered up a computer to remove in and shutdown the system.  Pulled the power plug, put it back in, powered everything up, and it's running right now without issue.  Thoughts?

Edit:  As a side note, the Intel Raid Web Console shows this drive cage with 2 power supplies.  Always did.  I only have one.  So not sure if that's just how many it can hold or if it's just not intelligent enough to detect the number of drives.

Thanks.

Cannot See Drives

I have an Intel S2600G (Z/L) board and it has no operating system on it. The drives are new and have nothing on them and I have the Intel Deployment Assistant. I am trying to install Red Hat onto the system and it doesn't see any usable drives. After checking BIOS and connections, I've concluded that I am missing the on-board SAS controller drivers (at least this is what I am lead to believe). I have tried downloading an update on the IDA system update via internet but it comes up with nothing. Am I missing something? Are there steps I haven't tried? Or am I clearly looking in the wrong direction? If somebody can help that would be fantastic.

Edit: I have the cables (minisas to minisas) connected to the board SCUs. I power on the machines and none of the drives initialize (I can get 4 drives to initialize when connected to the HBA in the server but I cannot see them when attempting to install OS). There is an RKSATA8 RAID C600 Upgrade key installed in the device. No OS and all drives are good. I have been trying to find drivers and firmwares that may help resolve the issue but I have not been successful. The board is S2600GL.

SATA/SAS capable controller RSTe pass-through mode in Linux

$

Hi,

I recently purchased a S1400FP server board along with the upgrade key C600 (RKSATA8R5) for enabling all of the 8 SATA/SAS ports in SATA mode.

However it is stated in the monthly specification update that RSTe is not supportable in linux operating systems, it did not mention that the pass-through mode did not work.

Can someone confirm that this is the case and provide information on whether this is planned to be fixed or not fixed?

I have 4 disks in a OS controlled software raid 5 (by mdadm) and want to use the pass-through functionality of the SATA/SAS controller. THe problem that I am seeing is the following:

* Every second time I reboot, only 2 of the 4 drives are readable and mdadm fails to reassemble the array

* All other times I reboot, 3 of 4 drives are detectable, and the array is assembled in a degraded mode.

* It is always the same hard drives that fail. The hard drives are in working order (bad blocks and smart tests are performed)

* When I move all drives to the AHCI sata ports all drives are detected and the raid assembles perfectly, always (i rebooted 10 times).

* I have seen similar problems on other server boards here:

S2600CO & pass-through disks

Hard drive HDD1 is the one who is never detected by the SATA/SAS controller, and HDD2 is detected every second time I reboot. When I loog into the OS, HDD2 is always readable, but HDD1 is never readable. They all work on the AHCI capable SATA controllers without problems.

I am aware that this could be a HDD firmware related issue, but I would like to make sure it is not a known problem with the SATA/SAS controller pass-through in S1400FP first.

I appreciate all the help and tips I can get to fix this issue as I really want to use the SATA/SAS controller in SATA pass-through mode.

Thank you

RS2MB044 beeps, but there is no error apparent

Hello,

I have the following setup (this is a test system, with no production data, so data loss is NOT a concern)

Intel DG45ID mainboard,

Intel RS2MB044 RAID controller,

-- 1x OCZ Vertex 2 SSD on a 8087-to-4xSATA cable on the internal port

-- RES2SV240 expander connected by 8088-to-8087 cable to the external port

     -- 16x WD Red 30EFRX 3TB drives connected to RES2SV240 by 4x 8087-to-4-SATA cables.

Logically, the system is set up with two identical RAID6s combining 8x WD Red drives per array, plus one RAID0 for SSD, providing readonly CacheCade.

The immediate problem is that the RAID controller starts beeping every reboot, something like one second on then one second off. When the system starts up, and Windows boots, I have to use RAID Web Console 2 to silence the alarm. However, there is no readily identifiable problem with the controller. RAID Web Console 2 lists "Controller condition optimal", "BBU optimal", All drives "Online", and 2x RAID6 arrays "Optimal". Also, no background tasks are running, no rebuild or whatever.

How do I identify what is the problem it beeps about?

Hello,

I want to upgrade the BIOS on my S5000VSA.

I've tried it with 94 and 96 Packages using DOS boot or Deployment tool. Nothing works. When using latest Deplyment Tools it get:

Error at FRUSDR upgrade: Probe Processor_Core: This command requires SMBIOS table version 2.5 and above to work

Errot at BIOS update: Current BIOS is not compatible to be updated to this package

Anybody out there who can provide me somw tips what to do?

I Have a RS2BL080 controller with 6 3tb drives in raid 5. Probably not going to do so for a few terabytes yet, but if I wanted to replace all those drives with 4tb drives is that possible And use the extra space in the current array?  I don't have another place to store my current array to recreate it.

THanks.

Intel Serverboard S1200BT Wake on Time possibilities?

$

S1200BT
Hello Community,

does anyone of you have the S1200BT and can confirm to me that this Board does not have Wake on Time?

The Bios we have is from 12/05/2012. There is one newer Bios from 12/2012 but we don´t think that this major feature got into Bios in such short time.

Why does Intel not have Wake on Time?. Our 7 Year old Serverboard have it. Does Intel think any Server must be on all the time?

We have used that feature every day and switched the Server on at a given time.

Do we really have to use a power-supply with time function to switch the server on?

We can remotly switch the server on, but than another computer has to be on all the time...

Does anyone of you have the same problem and have resolved it?

Thank you very much

ss4000-e raid failed after single disk replacement

Hello,

i have a ss4000-e running a raid10 on which one disk was about to fail.

Its led turned yellow, i rebooted the unit and after some hours it was fine again and the led was green.

Since it was some years running and last year i replaced another disk who failed, today i decided to

change all disks starting with that which recently failed.

So i replaced that disk ONLY and rebooted the unit.

Now, the worst is that it sees ALL disks as NEW !!..

And also putting the old disk in place of the new one, results in the "Disk changed" notify screen

on which all disks, although all serials numbers corresponds to the old disks and all are into their

correct slots (i replaced just one disk), are seen as NEW.

How can i bring my original configuration (and VERY hopefully) my datas back?

Many thanks for support.

SC5650UP and S3420GP Full/Min Alternating Fan Speed Problem at system idle

I have a S3420GP board and SC5650 server chassis.  After upgrading to the latest BIOS in order to support over 2TB hard drives, at system idle my system fans now alternate between full speed and minimum speed, with no speed variations in between.  (Before the BIOS upgrade, they worked as expected based on work load).  The SEL does not show any fan failures that would justify running full speed.  Any guidance here would be appreciated.

RHEL 5.5 ESRT2 RAID driver (megasr) issue

Hi,

I am having problems installing the ESRT2 RAID driver with a clean install of Red Hat 5.5 on a SR2500 server with 2 drives on RAID1. I am following the attached instructions but when when I reboot the server at the end the RAID1 configuration seems to be missing on the controller and the server is not booting up.

I think the problem is that my usb floppy disk is detected as /dev/sda and so the RAID unit, so I get error message about file already existing when doing the mount /dev/xxx/temp command.

I have wasted two days of work trying to make this work. Could you please help me on what I am doing wrong?

Many thanks

Bea.

S3420GPLC-based system does not recognize size of Seagate ST4000NM0033 4 TB disk correctly

$

Hi,

today I got my brand new ST4000NM0033 Constellation ES.3 4TB drive.

I plugged it into my server (Intel S3420GPLC motherboard, onboard SATA controller) and - bad surprise - I saw a size of only 1801 GB (BIOS level) and 1678 GB (Windows Server 2008 R2 level).

Switching between MBR and GPT modes in Windows did not make any differences.

Intel claims it should support drives larger than 2 TB (see http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/sb/CS-032920.htm).

So I plugged it into my IcyBox and hooked it up to my PC (Win 7 x64) by means of USB 2.0. Same story - only 1678 GB are recognized.

Then, I used the same IcyBox and connected it to the same PC by means of e-SATA. And what a surprise - it was properly recognized at 3726 GB, and I created and formated a partition of this size.

Finally, I plugged it back into my S3420GPLC Server. The ServerManager GUI tool now Claims 3726 GB, but diskpart stays at 1678 GB.

Now the 300€ question (that's about what I paid for the disk):

how do I get my server to recognize the full capacity consistently? How much data can I actually put on it?

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Thanks a lot,

Tom

S5000VSA Need Help Restoring RAID Array after Configuration Cleared

$

0

I need assistance in trying to reconnect/recreate my RAID arrays on an Exchange Server. I think what I need most is to find out from the existing HDDs (undamaged) what the size and stripe configurations are so that I can exactly recreate the arrays without Initializing the arrays, and hope that I can then boot the machine.

S5000VSA / S5000VSASATA. Does contain the RAID-5 key/dongle, but RAID-5 not in use, only using RAID-1 feature.

The original arrays were built circa 2008. Port 0 has Disk "A" -- Port 1 has a DVD -- Port 2 has Disk "B". Together Port 0 and 2 are RAID-1 Array 0. Port 3 is vacant. Port 4 has Disk "C" -- Port 5 has Disk "D". Together these are RAID-1 Array 1. Array 0 (C: Drive) contains Windows 2003 Server (64-bit) OS and MS Exchange, etc. Array 1 is a "data disk" and the Exchange Information Stores are on Array 1 (D: Drive).

The arrays started out on 4 identical 500GB HDDs. Over the years, each of these HDDs was, individually, replaced when they failed, by removing the old drive, inserting the new drive into a vacant port, and adding it as a Hot Spare, at which point of course the Rebuild would begin. As we know, the replacement disk had to be as big or bigger than the failed drive. Over time, with replacements, the original drive partitions have remained the same but the disks are now A=750GB and B,C,D=1TB drives. So, I have a partition that is smaller than the physical drive it rests on.

Does anyone know how I can examine Disks A and C to find out the correct parameters to specify when I try to recreate the logical disks ? I think I need the EXACT Size in MB and the Stripe size to use. As I understand it, if I can get these right, save the Configuration, then reboot, the controller should recognize correctly the disks/arrays and let me boot as per normal processes.

The drives themselves are, as far as I know, undamaged. The server board somehow erased its knowledge of the arrays during a reboot when I was trying to add a 5th HDD to the system.

Mainly I need to attempt to put the array back in touch with the motherboard's knowledge of the LDs.

Also, would appreciate any recommendations on what software to use to clone Disks A,B,C,D onto E,F,G,H and experiment with cloned versions not the original disks.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

RAID 1 S5520HC with HDs SATAIII

Hi!!

My server have a  S5520HC mother board  with Intel® Embedded Server RAID Technology II.

The manual of the S5520HC mother board sais as follows:

'The Intel® Server Board S5520HC/S5500HCV provide an embedded SATA controller that supports both 1.5

Gbps and 3.0 Gbps data transfer rates.'

So in theory  my motherboard don´t support SATA III. I have 2 news discks SATA III to configure a RAID 1 hardware RAID with the S5520HC mother board.

I know that SATA III HDs are compatible with SATA II mother boards, but I´m worry about the possible incompatibility of the SATA III HDs with the

RAID SATA controller Intel® Embedded Server RAID Technology II.

Do you think that I will have any problem configuring  the hardware RAID 1 in the S5520HC mother board with SATA III (6Gbps) HDs?

Thanks so much!!!!

Server board S5000PSLSASR and raid issue

I have a server with the board S5000PSLSASR, that is currently deployed.  I checked the Raid Web Console, and it shows my array, but under Physical in lists 4 copies of the same bad drive, it says "Slot 0, SATA, 0 Bytes, Failed." on 4 drives.  It is a raid 5 with 4 500gb drives.

Is anyone familiar enough with the console to tell me what's really going on?  I don't want to restart and go into the raid setup, in case the server doesn't come back up.  Can I just replace the drive in slot 0 while its on?

Also, does anyone know if the R at the end of my board's model number means refurbished?  I thought this board was brand new when I bought it.

Thanks in advance!
